its about him growing up in Stanley road, the story goes he asked his dad how far a mile was, his dad took him outside and pointed to the end of the road. the rolling stock rocked him to sleep refers to the railway line at the top of stanley road and the amber light flash accross the street is on the pelican crossing opposite his old house it used to shine in his bedroom its still there to this day.

Epic song, great imagery of Pauls childhood street through the eyes of Paul …. Steve Craddock’s playing is something else, masters at work , the best solo years for sure👌🏽❤️

Some of us yanks do get him, and thank god! Real music from a real artist -- not this manufactured crap that passes for most music today. Can't wait to see him in LA!

Same. Do you know which one is weller's? cos I really want to know. Unless it got knocked down by duke's court. This song really doesn't describe Stanley Road at all. "The length of it's a mile". Well about 30 meters. Good song though:D

Used to be a big Jam fan.Great live band.BUT.!!..Come on this is dire..it,s out of time and just white noise..Not Paul,s fault I guess but the rythm section are tragic.

I really love paul wellers music but he puts me off because he always seems to take his self so seriously. The same angry young man seems to be there and I just don't know about that anymore

Meanwhile some of us are glad he still has that anger. It's badly needed right now.

It’s called being true to yourself, he’s still the same person as he was when he was 16-17 , real people don’t change.. they are who they are and Paul weller is a prime example
