“Here comes a regular, here goes a career.” No man has ever epitomized the working man’s daily struggle than Paul Westerberg. I found this song because of One Tree Hill when I was in high school. I felt this song and rediscovered it currently going through my mid 20’s. I don’t know about anything else, but I know when I’ve had a day and I feel alone, this song is my “cheers, drink it down for a better day tomorrow” song. ❤ rock on folks 🤘🏻

To be honest anyone with any taste knows this is one of the greatest songs ever written. It was, in fact the very first I learned to play and sing at the same time on the guitar, circa 1987 ... though I used to just play it G-D-C cause that's fundamentally what it is :)

This version kills me every time. At the end of the first chorus when he says “am I the only one here today?” I get choked up. The next time he changes it to “am I the only one who feels ashamed?” and I literally start to cry. This is genius songwriting. Devastating and beautiful at the same time.

The Replacements came from an ethnic Polish Catholic neighborhood in Minneapolis. As Paul once said, "Drinking is part of life." His dad was a Cadillac salesman. At any rate, what a fine example of Paul's exalted writing talent. "Every day you're alive is a good day," Paul Westerberg (on Bob Stinson.)

He is my favorite singer, because he is all raw emotion. So much vulnerability. He feels every single note so deeply, and because he does, we do as well. No other musical artist moves me like this man does. His songwriting, his singing, his playing, his persona, all of it. He is a true genius, one of a kind. His honesty is both incredibly brave and incredibly heartbreaking. It remains unconscionable, criminal even, how underrated he is. But we know the truth. He is ours, and we are his. And thank God for that. Thank God for Paul Westerberg.
