@20:10 to answer your question: As a familiar player you often bring in Revoke existence preemptivly if you expect Relics and SPellbombs as GY hate. Since Failiars can easily run out of wincons if too much of their GY gets exiled. But seeing as they are facing an aggro deck that uses their own GY they should probably not have expected Relic and Spellbomb is slow.

Have you considered playing Fleshbag Marauder in the SB instead of Edict? You will get more triggers for BK when returning them with reanimation spells and will also get it cheaper than with the flashback cost of edict.

Nice synnergy, but the 1 extra mana is a real cost in this deck that is really tight on mana.

I've been a champion of this deck for a while (since breathless knight came out) and have gone a different route, more of the sacrifice route focused on getting the most out of breathless knight. Lunarch veteran is great because disturb does count for entering from the yard. I also run sac/draw effects, and other return effects such as supernatural stamina and angelic renewal. Another option to gain life and get some discard graveyard value is Cram Session.

There are a lot of different ways you can go. This version was built around the Scrapwork Mutt synergy, so I assume you don't run that. I did think of Lunarch Veteran as an option but I ran out of room and preferred Sacred Cat in that spot for the limited testing that I did.

@@Kirblinxy I like scrapyard + informant in the deck. Ran informant in some results but had not added scrapyard. I have ran scrapyard in other decks and I was impressed. Since I hadn't added both, I didn't add Thraben and Skyfisher which all compliment each other nicely. I found the problem is with unearth and recomission is graveyard hate from the board. I run Angelic Renewal because of that and only 1 or 2 recommission, but all 4 unearth in most builds. I board some of them out often based on the matchup, but always keep the Angelic Renewal.

Sacred Cat seems really bad in this list. I'd love to see it replaced for something with more presence and relevance to the game plan.

I'm welcome to suggestions. It just works as pseudo card advantage with all the looters and is a good threat to gate up. Lunarch Veteran is sort of the same I guess but actually triggers Breathless Knight if you want to go that way.
@Vesdus

@@Kirblinxy Unfortunately Lunarch Veteran doesn't work with the gates and isn't a very aggressive card. (Edit: I guess the second side of Lunarch Veteran is a 1/1 with flying, but the front side of the card just doesn't do anything you want it to.) Breathless Knight, Raffine's Informant, and Scrapwork Mutt are all incredibly aggressive cards. I understand why Sacred Cats are in the initial build of the deck; The deck is drawing parallels to Caw-Gate lists because Breathless Knight has both Flying and Lifelink. However I think the Knight carries without the gates. It either gets blasted with removal or becomes a 5/5+ and the gates just become gravy. And Caw-Gates loses so much consistentcy without Brainstorm, Ponder, and Preordain from Blue to dig for the Basilisk Gates. I see two different deck engines competing over Breathless Knight in this list. The Caw-Gate engine sacrificed blue's consistency for black in order to pump a lifelink flier. And Breathless Knight's graveyard engine is lacking more naturally aggressive creatures to shove damage through. Cards I would consider are Dark Ritual, Phyrexian Rager, First-Sphere Gargantua, and to a much lesser extent Viscera Dragger, Grixis Slavedriver, and Dregscape Zombie. None of those seem as aggressive as Raffine's Informant, Scrapwork Mutt, and Breathless Knight though. TL;DR give me a week and I'll come back with some more insightful suggestions.

So we just want to up the curve? RNDFunction has been having success with Inspiring Overseer (just a better Phyrexian Rager) and Militia Bugler. They also aren't as aggressive, but they help with the card flow problem, which I find is the main problem with the deck, it just runs out of gas.
@Vesdus
Жыл бұрын
@@Kirblinxy Well the way to not run out of gas and have relevant threats with Basilisk Gate would be to run Squadron Hawks. But then it's just inconsistent Caw-Gates. I like the efficient threats that help with inconsistent draws - Raffine's Informant and Scrapwork Mutt. Breathless Knight is an incredible card. Unearth and Recommission are great cards that just happen to work really well with the other cards. Thraben Inspector is good in everything it's in. I think what sets this deck currently apart from Caw-Gates is that it can play 3/2s on turn 2 that filter draws. But not only that, with Dark Ritual you could Scrapwork Mutt into an Unearth on turn 1, which is nutty - especially if you hit a Knight. Can do the same thing with a Recomission instead on turn 2. I ran into issues with the card flow as well. Bugler and Overseer might be better options.(Edit: Yeah, Bugler is really good in this deck. Rager sucks in comparison.) I just really like Rager for it's potential turn-1 play with Dark Ritual. It can be a little faster. And First-Sphere Gargantuan just makes sense to me. You're never going to cast it for 6 mana. But 3 mana to draw a card and "block me or take 5" is pretty good from the graveyard. Faithless Looting might be good here. Could run it Mardu but then all your lands are entering tapped. The issue that made me dislike the cats, though, was not drawing Basilisk Gate. 1 mana 1/1s with lifelink are really bad when you're trying to kill your opponent. Even if you cast them from the graveyard. And having inefficient threats is an easy way to run out of cards. When I play it, it feels like an aggro deck that is held back by some inefficient threats and inconsistent draws. Totally different from the controlling play of Caw-Gates. I'm still testing other cards to see what might work. I do love Dark Ritual in it, though.

Picked it up and took it for a spin right away. Wen't 3-2. Lost to Black Gardens and to Bogles. The Bogles matchup can't be solved with just some Crypt Rats and a playset of edicts, at least not if the deck has as many taplands as this one. Needs smth like Patrician's Scorn (and that'd likely come in handy vs. Journeys, too). Gardens depends on the build but they messed me up with Fangren Marauders in both games that they won. Otherwise - very nice, and good eye for cool tech as usual. Breathless-Ratpile does indeed work rather well.

Sideboard could be anything. I wasn't expecting much hexproof in the challenge, so decided to not worry about specific hate for it. Gardens is okay, I beat it in a league but it wasn't easy. You really need to hit 1-2 basilisk gates in that matchup to turn every creature into a threat and hope they don't sweep you if you go too wide.
