Keep in mind ! Use 5/8 crushed gravel for BETTER drainage then compact sub grade. Drainage is everything with concrete products. You want all the water that lands on those pavers to be able to drain properly. After that use all purpose sand underneath the paver for leveling. Then lay pavers in use paver joint sand that is just a tad finer that regular joint sand in between the joints or you can use a polymeric sand without a concrete additive that works too. Use a snap edge material to hold in place the pavers, concrete won’t work for long. Using Snap Edge will give you security that will last longer. Other than that nice video. But remember home owner drainage drainage drainage! Also when laying paver joint sand a good rule of thumb is to start from one end to the other **SWEEP THROUGHLY throughout your whole paver area if not you will end up with residue on top of your pavers that won’t come off.

Being 100% honest, I clicked on this to see how many things were done wrong as I used to build outdoor kitchens and patios for a living and you did everything right and even explained the small steps like filling your pvc lines. The only thing I would have done different is metal edging simply because I like a more defined edge on the pavers but thats really jusg personal preference. I hope you did a wet seal too to bring out some of those nicer brown tones in the stone.

Did something similar in the yard this past summer, the only thing I’d recommend, is adding some sort of removable backing to rest back. I had left it out of my original build but quickly added it once the kids kept leaning back and hitting the fence/wall and got too many “ouchies” 😂😂 awesome channel man! I just spent the last 2 hours watching videos, for sure one of my favorite diy home build channels! Impressive work. Like myself, no professional training or background. If I see something. So cheapest pavers are about $2.50 per sq feet. Then you need road base & paver base sand (About $200 + delivery). About 5 different kind of hand tools - $200. Polymerics Sand - about $100. We rented a mini excavator from Home Depot about $1100 (for a week - we're doing about 1500 sq feet) & a plate compactor - $100/day.. Hope this helps

Decent video. Having just put one of these in. I think there is one thing you didn't do and then somewhat glanced over. The biggest problem with DIY jobs like this that the average user has is settling. Most specifically, settling on the edges. Most masony quarries will recommend that you extend your base 6-8 inches passed the edge of your patio. I can tell you right off the bat, that you graded your patio away from the fence towards the grass. When the water runs off into the grass, its going to roll right off your concrete (this is the part you glossed over basically just covering in a 3 second caption you have to pause to read) and its going to create mud and your paver edge is going to sink out into the grass. It may not happen the first season but I give it 2-3 seasons and your edge is going to separate from your patio. Extend your paver base out 8 inches and it will last much longer. Also, and this wasn't part of the video but, your retaining wall in the back and terribly out of level. It was the first thing that caught my eyes after I threw up from all the spinning of the video in the beginning.

Two fire pits? Bunk beds, pantry... I think I've got a few to go.

You compact the base with a compactor if you want something that wont settle in the near future. Tampering only spots your compactor cannot reach/fit into. The most important part of laying pavers is having a solid base. Also, i dont know what kind of trash mix of rocks and sand you used for the base but any self-respecting hardscape contractor will use quarry processed stone blend and then a layer of stone dust for leveling. Once compacted it will harden to the likeness of concrete. The only thing that's really keeping your pavers in place right now is the polymeric sand preventing water from seeping through and settling the pavers. I would give those maybe 6 months at best before you see signs of settling. - I'm a masonry contractor and do this for a living.
@zarethd

While widely used, stone dust is not an appropriate bedding material as it has way too many fines. ICPI, many other institutes all agree, coarse rinsed concrete sand is the best choice for bedding.

@Adamantiis
5 жыл бұрын
@@zarethd As someone that's been at it for years and been using stone dust for decades and revisited job sites over 10 years old. I think my experience says otherwise. I could care less what some people in lab coats decides its best. Everything they've learned to date is from books written by people who have been on the field and I'm one of those people. I do two layers of stone dust on top of my QP, after prepping the QP, i add a layer of wet stone dust which i also compact. Then the final soft layer which is used for leveling. This method will has been tested open without pavers on harsh rainy weather for weeks and I have never even seen a single spot of stone dust fading through the QP. It will stay intact and harden to a point where it might as well be called concrete. I've done driveways for heavy vehicle traffic with this method and so far it's proved the best.
