Given that it's a starbreeze release my review pretty much just had been "I didn't expect it to release in such a good state". Like honestly, after dealing with PD2s Major issues for years on end until they finally fixed them or added the stuff in that was asked for I expected it to go the same way. What we got is a way better release state but yet another management issue which was... to be expected to say the least. What I don't get is why they're now full force on fixing things up instead of doing it like they did prior: release content while fixing up the issues over time. But the worst part is that people run in the same mistakes over and over - be it cyberpunk or pd3: people buy it despite the companies reputation and then act surprised that it turns out the way everyone could've seen easily prior. It's actual insanity.

A lot of the original developers left Starbreeze/Overkill and did not work on Payday 3. They moved on and created a studio called 10 Chambers that is known for a co-op game called GTFO. They are working on a heist game called Den of Wolves. It looks to be set in a more sci-fi or cyberpunk setting.

The reason for this is a fairly obvious one people that seem to be overlooking, and it's because the developers at starbreeze are working on another project (project baxter, whatever that is) and more importantly for payday 3 that a majority of the developers for the game are working on the DLC since they have an obligation to both the publisher and the people who bought the season pass. They'd probably be in a LOT more trouble than they currently are if they put their full focus on QoL changes rather than delivering what they've promised.

@@skeley6776 this. never had been any different. for a starbreeze release it's actually probably the best release they've ever made. I thought after cyberpunk people would actually look up the companies and how they act if they don't know them too well, guess I was wrong and people still are surprised despite the track record each of the companies got every single time. Just thinking about having only 2 even more useless bots for years until they finally added the 3rd, or the years it took them to fix the desync which in return caused issues for people that used the desync fix mod for years at that point as they didn't notice the official fix finally arriving. The fact that we got the original Specials + 1 extra on release as well as no desync and enemies not permanently running through every wall makes it look like they finally understood the base principles of creating a game. Edit: Now it's just waiting for a few years again until it's fully worth it (if the game survives this time around that is, would be a feat to revive a franchise 2 times in a row).

My biggest issue with Payday 3 is that it has no reason to exist. Payday 2 literally has you rob the White House for presidential pardons before Bain's death because he wants the gang to just be free from the law's clutches and retire. As a result, Dallas and the crew have no reason to continue after Payday 2 lest they just completely spit on what Bain did for them to live out their lives in peace. Unless it goes off an ending that isn't the true ending since I'm pretty sure we still don't know which is canon (at least i dont think the devs have said it). Does Dallas's credit card just decline when he goes to order something on Amazon and he's like "damn, gotta get the gang back together"?

Payday 3 could have been as big as helldivers 2, but the lack of heists, generic skill system, poor weapon selection, zero QoL features, no lobby searching, AND their refusal to break PC/Console parity to fix servers ruined it. It had a chance at launch, it had a shot during the first week, it was still alive in the second week... But the third week? The fourth week? Anyone who wanted to play it already had, and everyone else was fed up with server issues that had a fix ready for PC at least... but were delayed because "cOnSoLe PaRiTy." Now PD3 has to watch every other coop game out there eat its lunch as they desparately try to make tiny fixes and hype them up as major additions. As they do their bare minimum of releasing content they pre-sold that they almost certainly will not make their money back on. What a shame. What an absolute shame to throw away a decade worth of brand recognition, good will, and hype the community had from PD2 on such a mediocre sequel. I guess it's kinda funny, you couldn't find a game before, and you still can't find a game after the fixes. Well, at least there's den of wolves to look forward to for a new and potentially good heisting game! Oh, and Payday 2 when they go back to developing content for it I guess.

Most annoying thing with games now is the fact they demand you to see them as a job then a fun entertainment, games now love and I mean LOVE FOMO, they love to lock anything and everything behind it and the 1 thing that pisses me off with live service games now are shitty, bland, boring battle passes, it's a scam that you pay to not get what you paid for but instead you pay to have the right to earn what use to be just basic leveling up rewards. Back in the day with games like cod you would play for fun and along the way you would level up and when that happend you would get new weapons to use and so on, now games do it where you level up but all the rewards you use to unlock are now locked away behind a pay wall, you then have the fact that the progression swaps out and the stuff in it is god forever and they don't bring it back. People like to play games to relax, to have fun and not to stress over small things, grind challenges and matches for the sake of earning basic features. games now make you go through so much crap to make your purchase valid, if you buy a battle pass and don't sweat your ass off then sorry your money was probably wasted and you probably didn't get the value of what you paid for. Nothing is more off putting then seeing a game launch that is a over done BR mode (Or a game that only has 1 game mode and nothing else) it launches with a stressful and rip off Battle Pass and also the only way to even progress is not playing the game like it use to but now having to do stupid challenges that make you and everyone else throw the match as well as be pointless. Games that follow these trends are just so tiering and not fun because once you stop to think about what the game actually has in value of fun and gameplay, you realise it's all just predatory shit that is built on the goal to worm their way in your brain to use human phycology to feed off of you, FOMO is something we humans have, some stronger and some not so much, but with a lot of shit I've seen with games and people playing them they seem to only play them out of FOMO. My Ex back wanted to play Classic WoW which I thought was pointless as what is there to gain from it, he wanted to go and play and take part in all the events that went on back in the day which was feeding off of his FOMO, the fact is that no matter what they will never live that moment and those wanting to go back to that because of nostalgia won't get that either as that was all down to the time, the people, the thoughts and so on back then, you can't recreate something like that because there are so so so many factors that happened. My little brother doesn't play fortnite and he doesn't like it really but he wanted to get snake, so he went on and grinded it out but he told me how much he doesn't want to play it and didn't want to start but he wanted to get snake, I play fortnite and I play it more and with some friends here and there, I have had so many problems with it's FOMO and in the end with games like fortnite I just get burnt out and the more it happens the more I find myself playing less and less and then looking for something else better and less stressful. This is all on top of the fact triple A games now also make their games really unfair so everyone can play which makes them less skill based and more bullshit and so on to make it that someone new to it all can pick it right up and play but it comes at the cost of the game being unfair as well as just not fun.

The thing is, if you don't have zoomer brain then it's boring and becomes to stressful and you get burnt out, or at least I do which is the opposite of what they want, my friends seem to get burnt out and I've seen a lot of older people out tight drop games due to the fact they just don't enjoy them no more, well kids love the game but it never sounds like they are taking in the game and it sounds more like they are doing it because it's the cool thing to do.

@OrionDawn15
7 ай бұрын
@@ratgobbler This is going to be pretty long because there's quite a bit wrong with the game, just warning you. There's a TLDR at the very bottom if you just want the super short and oversimplified of it. It started out pretty alright, but they got scared of changing things up... or were too lazy to, whichever sounds more likely to you, and the game was basically the exact same thing over and over again with hardly any deviation. And when I say the 'exact same thing', I don't mean the gameplay's repetitive, it is but most games are. No, I mean they reuse the EXACT SAME ASSETS EVERY RUNDOWN, for simplicity think of rundowns as seasons in games but with whole new levels. Back to what I was saying, they literally reuse entire rooms with minor changes for just about every level in the game with a few exceptions so besides the gameplay being slow and unfun, you're just going through the same rooms you've seen dozens and dozens of times before. The rundowns don't really offer anything of value, they never do new objectives, they don't add new enemies and when DO add enemies you'd be lucky if they're not just the exact same grunts you normally see but with minor alterations to fit a different enemy 'type'. For example, the last rundown of the game and the final major update. Guess how they handled that? If you guessed copy and paste the exact same room assets with no objective variation, you're correct. What did they do about enemies? If you guessed just making standard grunts but removing their heads and adding tumors as weakspots to their bodies, you'd also be correct. There's only a couple actually unique enemies and you rarely fight them. And with how they handled the final major update, it's safe to say they put as much effort into it as they did the rest of the game; they didn't even try. On top of that, the game is meant to be super hardcore and stuff, but the game is super unforgiving for newcomers. On top of that, their idea of difficulty is to have weapons that feel like they do piss-poor damage, give you little ammo, have tons of enemies that not only hurt a lot but can soak up damage. The game IS a stealth game, but stealth is as simple as 'red light, green light' unless it's not and going loud is sometimes forced. Also they like to spam poison fog at you that's not only hard to see through but limits your max health, and give you next to no way to get that health back. Of course, it's not enough that the game is frustrating, it's not enough that you're going to be driven mad by the aggressive reuse of assets and complete lack of variety in objectives and enemies... every level is up to an HOUR LONG and there's NO checkpoints, so your one run HAS to be the winning run or you're going to be stuck on that level for hours, or even days. TLDR; Aggressive reuse of area assets, creatively bankrupt in terms of enemy design and variety, little objective variety, hard but not hard in a way that feels fair, it's just lazy difficulty. EVERY LEVEL IS AN HOUR LONG AND THERE'S NO CHECKPOINTS IN ANY LEVELS UNTIL LATER RUNDOWNS AND IT'S MOSTLY JUST ONE CHECKPOINT ANYWAY.

Good news actually; Update 237 didn't completely screw over PD2. *They tried to doom the multiplayer,* but if you put some launch options on like... I think the command is ~SteamMM, it will revert back to the old matchmaking that the game had previously.

the worst part about this is how Overkill has literally grown too comfortable trying something new. everytime a new title gets put out, whether it's Payday or not ends up being exactly the same game but with some shiny coat of paint over that. The Walking Dead, that WW2 game and whatever else they've put out. literally an utter failure both in revenue gains and keeping whatever remains of the community as most of the players have already went back to PD2.

Did that WW2 game and OTWD also had server issues?

Victim of the ages, gaming overall is in a sad sad state. Nobody can do what Fortnite did guys, pack it up and be good at your own thing. Live service means less service.

I remember Ross Scott's take on live service games. If a game had a central server dependency, he'd just show a graphic of an overly happy guy with a loose noose around his neck giving a big thumbs up. Yeah, live service games bring new meaning to the term "dead game" when support gets dropped.

@@deaconthethird3218 why does a game need central server dependency again? are they making a platform like roblox where they host multiple gamemodes? because i don't see any reason for any game to rely only on developer-hosted servers, when you can just either use P2P or provide server tools to community and have them host servers and even allow the game to be played locally. It's waste of server software to only host sessions for 1 game.

Do what fortnite did???? 😂 fortnite was a trend follower, not leader/setter

@@HRM.H Yeah nothing Fortnite did was original for sure and despite that it was a huge success that the entire industry copied and now games like this fizzle out and die a month after release, because they think they can just follow the same trends as Fortnite or COD or GTA and win everybody’s money, when the consumer is actually sick and tired of how similar all these games became.

It's crazy to think my team for RAID: World War II might end up having more players than Payday 3. What a time to be alive.

They planned from the start to be scummy as EA, But forgotten they aint that big. We still have tons of backlog games to play, Monsterhunter was on sale and still finishing P3R, aint to time for this.

They gotta compete with helldivers now. Which Helldivers got leaked showing they’re ALREADY WORKING ON AN ENTIRELY NEW ENEMY FACTION. Meanwhile this game is still won’t have P2P connection even with server browser you’re going need hope the game servers are working to host a lobby

Even Deep Rock Galactic has been out-competing Payday 3, and that game's not even the new talk of the town like Helldivers. Ghost Ship recently outdid PD3's numbers with their sixth anniversary update.

My baseless tinfoil hat theory is that maybe some stuff might've been a decision by the publisher like being a live service game, considering how Deep Silver and Embracer Group have been handling other dev teams, I fear that Starbreeze might be in trouble.
