Thousands of mourners have arrived for the funeral of Martin McGuinness as the ex-IRA commander turned Stormont deputy first minister is laid to rest in his native Londonderry. Former US president Bill Clinton (left) and ex-Democratic Unionist Stormont first ministers Peter Robinson and Arlene Foster were pictured attending. Irish President Michael D Higgins and his predecessor, Mary McAleese, is also at the Requiem Mass for the Sinn Fein veteran, as is Taoiseach Enda Kenny. Thousands lined the streets (pictured right) in remembrance of the controversial character as his coffin made its way to the church. One banner in the crowd read: 'Martin McGuinness. Irish martyr. He did not go to war. War came to him. Blessed be the peace-maker'. A piper played as his coffin was carried onto the street where a tricolour flag was placed on top by members of Sinn Fein, including Gerry Adams (inset). The crowd broke into applause as family members slowly carried the coffin along the street.
