I'm from Brooklyn, and while I understand your strategy, I don't understand why you would be driving to NJ micro center since you would have to waste money on: 1. Bridge tolls 2. Gas (especially if you are driving from Verrazano) and given the gas prices in NY 3. Traffic 4. Absolutely sh*ty roads. Given the difference between NJ sales tax (6.625%) and NY (8.875%) is not that big. For instance: NY purchase - $1000 + 8.875% = $1088.75 NJ purchase - $1000 + 6.625% = $1066.25 Difference in this case is only $22.50 - expenses and your time. I assume it makes sense only if you are purchasing something really expensive otherwise you would be losing more than saving.

Here in Sweden we have a kinda equivalent place called “webbhallen” (translates roughly to “the web hall”) which has most gaming things, my PC is build exclusively from parts on webbhallen because they are cheaper than most other web stores and in person stores here.

I didn’t even realize one of the only micro centers in the country is right down the street… I will definitely be taking advantage of that more

Micro center doesn't always have the best deals on the planet. In China, HK and Taiwan you can get some good deals. Thailand and Malaysia can be really good for certain items too.

Yeah, im in Indianapolis, so my closest is also 4 hours to Ohio. We used to have a Fry's electronics store that had a DIY pc section with decent deals but amazon basically killed them. Also a lot of people buy prebuilt

I live "close" to a MicroCenter... as in if I take an entire day I can drive there and back, and even spend an hour or two there. But sometimes, especially when building a new system, their deals are worth the drive. I mean, have a friend who does cad work... deal was a 7800X3D, Mobo, 64GB DDR5 6000.... MSRP at the time was close to $900, bundle was $450.

It's not just microcenters. If you look at a graphics card that's $500 USD, or just over £400, it will cost £500 in the UK and salaries in the UK are about 2/3rds of the US, so really it costs us twice as many hours at work to pay for it. Obviously, it's even worse in some countries.

I am from Texas and the nearest micro center is a 6 hour drive. I am currently living in California and the closest micro center is 4 hours away. You’d think in high populated states they would have more than 1 micro center but nope only 1 in both these states.

I suspect that the costs are about even out. Food prices in Germany, for example, are often lower than in the USA and the healthcare system is not that expensive. Internet is also often cheaper, but rent and energy costs are more expensive. Maybe there will be more money left over for luxury things. Today I saw a TV post about living in the Netherlands and there is no property tax for people under 35 and only 2% over 35. As far as I know, food prices are much higher in the Netherlands and many who live on the border like to shop in Germany.
