Getting out of that beautiful canyon to Cajon Pass was a shock for me last year. For days it was soon quiet and tranquil. Then I got hit with the business, hassle and bustle and constant noise at Cajon. That was overloading my senses.

Again, Thanks for taking us all along on this segment of the PCT. Living in Ventura county, someday I can imagine that I want to try to hike from Mexico to the Mojave desert or to Lake Isabelle. It is wonderful to watch your great videos.

I’m loving my vicarious hike with you guys. Years ago, we drove the Angeles Crest Highway from east to west, and at the highest points there was a little snow. It was early July. I’ve lived here in California for 54 years, and I still get a kick out of all the contrasts. Hike on!

Very little of the southern California section is actually desert. The designation is very misleading. Most of it is chaparral and mixed conifer forest. You went through some high desert scrub near Scissors Crossing. The only other desert section is the far western section of the Mojave Desert at the aqueduct. Chaparral is characterized by large shrubs and all those wildflowers you've been seeing. Sometimes you get a coastal sage scrub habitat mixed in with the chaparral. When you're seeing chamise, sage species, manzanita, ceanothus, etc. then you're in chaparral. Cacti, yuccas, and succulent species like Dudleya do live in the chaparral. In fact they go all the way to the coast. It's the predominant habitat of California and parts of Oregon as well.

Thanks, brilliant, looking forward to seeing how things are going to pan out in the San Gabriel Mountains. I drove Hwy 2 in spring 2011, it was just open. Cheers and good night 👍🤓

You guys are lucky. It was 88 degrees here in the desert today, Monday the 10th, in Lancaster, and the snow I could see in the mountains west of Wrightwood to Tehachapi seems to be gone.

0:54 - crossing that road is probably more dangerous than a water crossing at high water in the Sierras.

What says fine breakfast dining more than Mc Donalds in the Cajon pass for breakfast when hiking for a long day? Everything tastes better when hungry while hiking with a pack. Today we were returning from car trip down to see the wildflowers in Anza Borrego State park. We drove over through Temecula and through Lake Elsinore to the mountain range over to the Interstate 5. From the top of the about 2,500 ft mountain range we could see from Mt Baldy, to Cucamunga, San Bernardino peak, San Gorgonio and over to San Jacinto in one viewing over the lake. There is still lots of snow over 8,000 feet elevation in southern California. I have been in all of these mountain ranges in the past summers.

Well, the first 700 miles is called the desert, as compared to the High Sierra and beyond. You will come upon more actual desert once you hit the Mojave. Hot and dry last time I was there. Who knows this year🤣? Thanks for the update!
