Your efforts with the videography are totally worth it. I look forward to your daily summary every day! I think the wildflowers are the reward you get for all of that snow early in your hike. The scenery is really lovely and thank you for sharing it with us!

I've been enjoying your videos very much. Thank you so much for sharing. We were recently camping up by Lone Pine and Independence in some of the lower campgrounds. The snow is melting but there is just so much of it. Lots of of fast moving water. Something else to take into consideration for the Sierras is that the roads from the towns up to the trailheads are closed part way up due to snow and rockslides. The upper campgrounds are currently all closed. So if you come out of the mountains like through Kearsage Pass, you are going to have to add some steep miles to your hike. Places where cars are normally available to pick you up or drop you off are not available. That will make hitching a ride into town more challenging. Enjoy your time off and I'll be looking forward to your return.

Joe, you're hilarious. No groaning. If you keep that up, you'll lose codger status! 😅So going up to 7,000 ft. Pretty high. We'll all miss you & Dave when you're gone, but Disney World and Scotland sound pretty exciting. Happy trails! See you on the next one.

Hi guys. Denali here. So, are you planning to start the Sierra in early June? Yikes, that could be the height of the big melt this year. You will certainly encounter some scary river/creek crossings. I am waiting until late July or the beginning of August. Let me know if you change your Sierra start date: maybe I could join you. Cheers.

Beautiful scenery. But you ain’t seen nuthin yet (unless you’ve already been in the Sierra) Wonderful that you are going back east for a spell- maybe “some’ of the snow will melt in your absence.

I've watched so many different human chronicles of their hikes on the PCT... the best reason I've heard for "why" to do the hike came from akwild1, a married team from Alaska. At age 61, he resented getting old and "... wanted to do something remarkable before meeting the other side of dirt... to see if there was any badass left in the tank." His wife almost quit a couple times but they kept going. Then on the younger side of the coin, Jack Keogh's epic PCT film is so pure in representing that tender stage of young adulthood before grownup commitments tie one down. He and trail friends did it in 110 days. From Dixie in Homemade Wanderlust and her list of Top 10 Reasons People Die on the PCT... to Hiking with the Codgers... all are so unique... yet all doing the same thing. Take care y'all and wishing you safe and happy travels.

Did you mention the bar at Kennedy Meadows? There is beer, beer, and more beer at Kennedy Meadows. Beer is proof that God loves me. We were doing the JMT from Tuolumne Meadows about 10 years ago and camped just south on the trail. We walked into Red's Meadows for a trip to the store. There was lots of beer. I was not picky at all. Within about 20 minutes I drank 2 cans of real full strenth Coors. It did the job, I got to sleep very early that night. There is a great breakfast and lunch grill at Red's Meadows with great breakfast meals and lots of very good coffee. Coffee is another proof that God loves us.

I watched a current video of hiking (mountaineering) Mt. Whitney. There was massive snow. If you hike in the Sierra, you will not find the trail. It will be very dangerous trying to get over peaks, etc. There will be avalanches, cracks in the snow, barriers, etc. The video is kzitem.info/news/bejne/1ZyBnXuCb6Z5lno.

Looks like yo camped ar Spanish needle creek… i could not agree more with joe…take your time where you are…you will never see another area like the next 500 miles in the Sierra…joe looks like he’s losing weight getting that pct lean…can’t tell with david cause he’s a tall bean pole that all covered up. You guys don’t talk about hiker hobble in the morning. Exists for all pct hikers I did a YO-YO of walker pass to Kennedy meadows…going in both directions gives you a different perspective. Btw how did you like those switch backs in the beginning…one more thought to leave you with. Take your time and think a lot…think of everything that you’ve got…for tomorrow you may be here… but your dreams may not. Happy trails Froggy out

Since you're a PCT veteran, I'd be interested in your thoughts on the section from Kennedy Meadows to Cottonwood Lakes Campground. I used my Gaia app to create a route between these two points and it's 42 miles with a total of 9535 feet of ascent. Since the southern Sierra has less snow than farther north and will probably dissipate sooner, I thought this might be a section for me to try in mid to late June. I think water sources will also be available along the way due to this year's snowpack. Can you provide intel from your experience and in consideration of this year's conditions?

33 miles is a bit much. We did 32 mile walks for a benefit cause several years and thy kind of beat up. The last year we did this we opted for mixing running in with walk for32 miles and felt better after that, you all could try that 😁. It’s nice you got a Heather in your group, it’s nice she has you guys to walk with. Some nice hills your in. We’ll miss you all on your vacation.

Thank you for showing me the southern desert section of the PCT. It is very nice and not too hot in this early spring time. I can see me planning a hike from Mexico to Kennedy Meadows trying to make it in under 50 days. The scenery looks very nice with great trails and hiking. Remember Kennedy Meadows is hamburgers, french fires, hot dogs with other foods and BEER. Did I mention lots and lots of beer? Yes they have craft and IPA beers available. When there with my car about early June 2022 there was a 6 pack or 2 of beer on every table. These PCT hikers were enjoying the beer before facing that climb up and over trail pass and cottonwood pass. There is snow lots of snow coming very soon.

You guys are on the way to PCT rock star status. Thanks for these youtube videos and taking us all along on this great adventure. There are so many of us stuck in very boring day to day jobs sitting at desks, viewing and typing all day on keyboards. We are dreaming about doing just what you guys are doing just doing the south desert of the PCT. Kennedy Meadows less than 1 week away. After Kennedy Meadows comes the southern high sierras. I have been up in the southern sierras many times and they are spectacular.

They didn't miss that many trail miles: from Spitler trail before Apache Peak, and then they took the lowest route out of Idyllwild to join up with the lower part of Fuller Ridge (Jacinto is between Apache Peak and Fuller Ridge, also the PCT does not go to summit). That's about 20 miles, that's all they skipped from start (mileage info from Far Out app) 😀

@@anneest True, but still quite a bit they skipped. Also I don't think Hazel was with them, so not sure how he route went before she joined them up the trail.
