Good thing the water was low . If it were much higher , that white water could of broke over the pebble bar you crossed on , and would of made it a bit more of a puckerup moment . Glad you made it safely , as even a fall in shallow water can take alot more time to dry off , which delays you in getting to your overnight camp . ": Keep on Truckin Bro ".

When I crossed the bridge in mid August I thought there was no way the water would ever get low enough this year.

Where in relation to the destroyed bridge did you cross? Upstream/downstream? How far up or downstream were you when you found that nice calm crossing? Thanks in advance sir! Happy trails.

Downstream about a quarter mile. You walk through the campsite the construction crew was using at the bridge and there is a rock scree you climb up and over and will drop down to the river. just passed it.

Tx for the video but I have to admit, I'm confused. You're SOBO - right? Should the water be going the other direction? You started from the North side of the river and crossed to the south. no??? Should the water be going left to right. Like I said, I'm confused.

Nope I have been northbound from the beginning. I returned to Kearsarge Pass picking up the Sierra section I flipped over. When I reach Echo Summit, I will have a completed everything from the border to Snoqualmie pass and return there to complete the last 260 to the border.

I got a permit cottonwood pass to happy isles starting Sept 1. I have no idea how the snow will go this year but you crossed in a high year in Sept it looks like. How far from the bridge were you and up or down stream? Thanks for the videos.

The crossing was about a quarter mile downstream from the bridge. I had originally planned to do the bypass which adds few hours and lots of elevation, scrambling, but after talking hikers safe doing the crossing. Everybody has their own opinion, none of that matters you have to evaluate your comfort level based upon your experiences.

Thanks for the reply. Some of the alternative routes that are recommended are not very desirable to me. But we will see. Happy adventures!

This was at low water. The JMT should be closed until this bridge is replaced.

Terrible statement! No need to close something just because a bridge is out. Agreed that is a dangerous river, that's why there are alt routes available.
