Partial discharge (PD) testing is considered to be a key strategy for predictive maintenance and asset management of MV and HV cable systems today.
Even though the method is not capable of evaluating the global aging condition of the main insulation, PD testing can reveal and pinpoint
local defects, weak spots and deteriorating conditions in splices and terminations. Since the majority of cable circuit failures occur in those accessories, PD testing has become the go-to tool to directly assess the quality of workmanship by making defects visible which would otherwise pass a standard-compliant VLF withstand test, but then slowly deteriorate and eventually fail the cable in a relatively short time after the circuit was energized.
In this comprehensive webinar we will discuss general application scenarios for PD testing as well as advantages and disadvantages of the method.
We will talk about some real-world case studies showing how effective PD testing really is, and in addition to that, a quick overview on test parameters and best practices is provided. To conclude, an outlook of other related cable diagnostics is given.
