It’s great that you’re honest about the pain. Too often medical professionals try to say things aren’t painful that they’ve never experienced.

I’m also super sensitive to heat pain so opted for the zero pre-incubation period with the Levulan, and 30 minutes under the light. They put on the Levulan and I went straight to the light treatment. It was totally tolerable, just felt a little prickly and warm. From what I understand, the longer you incubate the Levulan, the more intense the burning under the light. So this might be a good option for you if you need any more PDT treatments!

I am late to viewing your video which popped up on YT recommended, so glad it did. Appreciate that you shared what others failed to mention about this blue light therapy. If I had gone through what you described, not one doctor or nurse would be standing upright from me fighting them and that machine. My dermatologist mentioned the blue light therapy as something she wants to do for me. I do have questions, when you had Moh's on your scalp, how big was the cancer visibly and how many times did the doctor have to take to remove it? I have squamous cell in my scalp from an injury which didn't heal. Of course the injury was subjected to chemicals from hair color which caused infection plus the cancer. The spot that I can see in my scalp is about the size of a thumbnail, but has deep margins according to the pathology report. I cannot being to tell you how mortified I am of how much they may have to remove after seeing several.videos where small amounts (single removal) to 3 additional. I have other spots I am going to have biopsied soon on my arm, back, and back of my leg. I will be doing IG SRT on those if they are cancer too. Having done research online, plus reviewing data I have access to as part of my job in the healthcare industry. I don't see any different outcomes going through painful scaring surgeries only to have the cancer come back a year or two later, when other non-surgical options are out there. This is just my opinion and what I feel is best for me.

Hi Red Fish, I’m so glad your treatment was much more bearable than mine. I was told, after my treatment that I could not go out side for 3 days. My dermatologist didn’t even want the lights in my house turned on. Crazy, that your skin started to hurt after being outside. It’s probably extra photosensitive after your treatment. I hope everything goes ok from here on out. Thanks for watching my video, I really appreciate it!

@SunLuxSkincare

Hi Tamra, I know it is so expensive, so here is how I kind of work around that. When I know I am going to be inside during the parts of the day when the sun is the strongest, (10am-4pm) I wear my own brands sunscreen (because it’s cheaper and I don’t need the most coverage), but on weekends typically when I am in full sun all day, the 50 is a must. So I suggest you try to find a cheaper one you like for days you are mostly inside, then use the Obaji on full sun days. This will make your Obaji last months longer. I hope that helps 😊

I had the 16 minute treatment done last week. It was uncomfortable but not unbearable. The area I had the most reaction to was on my upper lip and chin. I was very red on Day 2 but surprisingly on Day 3, most of the redness had faded. I didn't have major peeling just a lot of flaking such as you may get using a prescription retinol. I'm unsure about how effective the treatment was because the areas I was most concerned about still appear to be present. My dermatologist told me she recommended a second treatment after 30 days. I will definitely do this because I have had so many basil cell and actinic keratosis areas removed in the past.

Thank you for sharing! Now I am freaking out, as I am scheduled to try this for BCC and it will be a 16 minute treatment. My Plastic Surgeon told me it causes a burning feeling, but is not miserable, yet your experience certainly sounds very different. She told me she has it on her teenage son for acne (another common use) and he has no discomfort? The area they will be treating for me is approx 2-3 cm is on my lip and upper lip. We are NOT doing this to be curative, but solely to try and shrink down the size so that my MOHS surgery and Reconstruction may be somewhat less complex. IF we can not shrink this down some, then my Derm (MOHS surgeon said, I will likely lose half of my lip) and that was such horrible news to hear. Gosh, I guess I need to continue to research this even more.....! Oh How I regret always having a nice tan. I did use Sunscreen for many yers, but when I was younger, we didn't even have it, so as a young age I did have a few nasty sunburns. Never again and I have always protected my children and now my grand babies. The MOHS and reconstruction are a nightmare to me -- I do not like any surgery and it sounds pretty awful. I'm feeling really devastated! ..

Hiii ThePurplePlace, oh I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through. From what my doctor told me, the 16 minute light is much less painful, which is why people can tolerate the full 16 minutes. My 5 minutes was a much stronger treatment. Isn’t it such a bummer to know that we can get skin cancer in our lips. Why are Beauty/Skincare brands not educating us about protecting our lips. You are in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope you have a positive outcome. Please keep in touch and let me know. (For your friends son, Blue light is excellent for acne as it kills bacteria under the skin. And he shouldn’t feel any pain unless they apply the skin cancer cream, which he wouldn’t need for treating acne). Please keep in touch!! Robin :)

@@SunLuxSkincare Robin, Thank you very much for sharing this information. I hope very much you are right and that 16 minute treatment is more tolerable. I am waiting to get more input from my Plastic Surgeon's Office and we are still waiting for insurance approval. I guess it's either this or Aldara (Imiquimod) Cream (to try and shrink this down some prior to the MOHS. Neither choice is wonderful and they both don't look great and sound somewhat painful. I'm happy to know you had a great results. NOTE: It was my Plastic Surgeon who told me she had used this treatment on her own teen son for acne and he had good results. Knowing he tolerated it well, I figured it would be easy -- until I saw you video! Ironically, I did also use a SPF sunscreen for lips for many years, but as I said, my damage was likely done very young before we knew any better. I'll post again with an update! Thank you, Lisa

@@SunLuxSkincare - i am very happy you share this video and it was very helpful to me! Thank you! I saw many others and knew the PDT was likely going to be pretty painful, but I did have choices and ultimatley chose to use a topical cream called "Aldara" which is used for BCC and also for Actinic Keratosis. I also am living with "Stage IV Non small cell Lung Cancer" and that was treated with Immunotherpay meds and this cream also works with the Immune system, so they thought it may work well for me. I have two MD's (my MOH's surgeon a Dermatologist an also a Plastic Surgeon who told me about the PDT). My MOH's surgeon offered the cream first, but I then asked the Plastic Surgeon for her thoughts and that's when she told me about the PDT. The cream is used for a month (or more) and it does get and look pretty sore and nasty while you are using it, so I was torn. They both felt either would work, but the MOHS surgeon does not used PDT in his practice, so he had much more experience with the creams. There are actually two sed for BCC's and Actinic Keratosis, this one and another called Efudex, which is a chemo cream. After reading lots of info and watching lots of videos, I chose to use the Aldara cream and it worked amazingly well, so well that I may not now need the MOHS or the reconstruction, which is awesome. I saw my MOHS surgeon this week for my final consult before surgery and he was so amazed at the final outcome and healing that he decided take two new biopsies and thinks it "may" have been "curative" for me. Typically, it's NOT, but for some it can be, especially small superficial BCC's. Mine was not small and the surgery was going to require reconstruction, so I was not excited about that. NOW, I'm so happy because there is a chance it's clear and I won't need any surgery, and if not totally clear, it appears to me much smaller, which was the goal. I'm very hopeful we will find it was and will find out next week, when we get the results. Even IF it's NOT totally gone, it certainly worked well and will make the surgery far less invasive then originally expected. Thanks again for sharing...! Lisa
