In this problem, we are asked to use the Rational Method to find the peak runoff from a 10-acre area consisting of mostly apartments. This can be done in the following manner:
Step 1: Look up the equation for the Rational Method.
Step 2: Find the area given in the problem statement.
Step 3: Use the intensity-duration-frequency curve provided to find the intensity on the Y axis from the 20 min duration on the X axis which was given in the problem statement.
Step 4: Look up the runoff coefficient for a “residential area” using the context clue of the area being “mostly apartments”.
Step 5: Calculate the Rational Method.
