I hope that maybe in S2 and S3 they will draw inspiration from the mid 2000s Blue Beetle run where Peacemaker (albeit in a rebooted form, different than the one we see here) is a mentor of sorts to Jaime Reyes. A Blue Beetle HBO Max movie is in development so hopefully they will tie it together.

I really think part of the charm was that it had an 8 episode season. It’s got a lot going on, but they don’t go 12 or 15 episodes to explain every nook and cranny. I think they try to do that with all the marvel shows, but they just have people asking far more questions than answered. Peacemaker wasn’t afraid to say “WHAT THE F*CK IS HAPPENING?!” with its fast paced story. It has all the time it needs, whereas Loki made me want a 20 episode season 1 just because of how huge an idea the story is. I’m looking forward to another season of Peacemaker, I think it’s change of pace style is just what the doctor ordered. Really with _The Suicide Squad_ and now _Peacemaker,_ DC’s on a roll. They realized they can’t win with superheroes like Batman/Superman because there’s been so much to compare those characters to, be it depictions in film and cartoons, people in their mid-20’s remember the Justice League cartoon, and grew up with Christian Bale’s Batman alongside the Arkham games to have a reliable image of Batman, and something too different just isn’t *their* _Batman._ But Peacemaker? Fresh canvas. I’d say maybe 10-20% of comic book fans were aware of Peacemaker pre-The Suicide Squad, and maybe a quarter of fans that saw him in that learned about him before the show, however Peacemaker still hasn’t had an impactful depiction in media for a LONG time. People love to see a random/less-recognized hero from a different time try to adjust to our world. That’s part of why Chris Evans’ Captain America is endearing to the audience- people understand he’s from a bygone era just trying to adapt. Sure they brought out a few unknowns in both Suicide Squad attempts, but they didn’t invest in the character like they did with John Cena’s Peacemaker. If the actor for Vigilante played Peacemaker instead of John Cena, for the movie+show, it wouldn’t draw the same interest that their John Cena casting did. People noticed. Most reacted to the first time they saw a trailer with a, “why is John Cena wearing that weird helmet?” DC gave it a real shot, and that investment in the character is part of why it paid off for them.(I hope that doesn’t come off as a “cast Tom Cruise for everything” but I’m trying to say if you cast a likeable actor without a truckload of promotion(unlike Ben Affleck as Batman, pretty sure they were more interested in having a name as opposed to having someone that people can see thrive in the role). This was longer than expected, appreciate it if anyone read it. Have a good day, and I’m sorry this was so long.

So glad someone else thought that was Ace. That sucked me in, the detail this production crew developed was incredible! Like episode two, the "Foster the people" conversation between the couple being tied up and the end credits where the lead singer for Cinderella sings Pumped up kicks and shouts out "how do you like that Evan!?". My head exploded! Quality with intro and credits...made the entire experience top notch.

Small reference: seeing how Peacemaker's Dad haunts him even after death reminds me of Poka Dot Man from James Gunn's *The Suicide Squad* . Both Characters end up being haunted by their terrible parents even tho they are gone from their lives. They cope with loss by doing violent or dangerous activities as if their parents were still around. I think when they 'see' their parents they are conflicted between trying to live up to their expectations or trying to move on and away from them. Because despite the abuse and treatment the parents did to them physically, emotionally, and mentally they endured the pain and still loved them.

Definitely a good catch! I think it could also reference the father character in Dexter for similar reasons that you mentioned. It's actually quite a common after affect, speaking from experience. We suffer a syndrome similar to Battered Spouse Syndrome mixed with Stockholm Syndrome, for some fcked up Hybrid offspring. Growing up from the late 80's throughout the 90s, in Australia.. nobody gave a crap about the 'feral boy, whom comes from the government housing territories. So it's not like today.. where there's helplines and teachers actually report suspicion of abuse.. My day the teachers that noticed, just had more patients with us and we're more tolerant of our behaviours. Other parents that seen a kid like myself with black eyes and bruising all the time.. judged us kids, the victims, as if we were just a naughty PoS that doesn't learn from his beatings. I remember in 99 I tried to call a government agency, when I ran away, for help. Both they and the cops told me, "Go home, deal with the beatings until I was 18, because they didn't have the government approval of helping kids unless it was an 'extreme' Emergency of your parents kicking you out and making you homeless. Which they still rang parents to confirm, but those parents may have not wanted the kid around.. they wanted the government payment for having those kids in their 'custody'.. so the parents would just act like the kid's ran away.. kids living on the streets, parents getting money for a child they haven't seen in weeks/months/years. During this period, Foster Homes were avoided for troubled youths over a certain age, due to alot of bad history of the 70's and 80's speaking out. I knew this one female, she was a bit older than me.. we both got picked up staying on the streets, tried to argue our case Infront of a judge.. When she told the judge that her father had repeatedly *Forced her* whilst her drugged out mother was to far in to her la la land, to care. The judge said "well you just need to put a lock on your door on the inside to lock your father out at night and during the day; be at school, find a job for after school so you can afford that lock". To this day, I have absolutely no respect for the Australian penal system.. . Also the last time I seen that girl, her father had died in a drink driving accident.. She was , in a mindstate of being that her father still talks to her, and she just wants him to love her like a daughter.. not how he did.. and she even said "I still see him nearly daily, he is making up for being the person he was.. I just have to earn his approval." And I have had cops show up during one of my beatings, when I said what happened.. they Aggressively and with discourteous said to me "What do you want us to do about it?".. I said "How about your rf#¢king job?' to which they decided to toss me in the cells overnight so I would "learn some respect and my parents wouldn't beat me". So I really don't see the need to show police respect either, unless they show it first. Also my life really is bottom of the ladder and I still get images of my dad talking me down.. even when I am trying no fix my life/future (I recently enrolled in game development and design) and I constantly have flashes of my dad disparaging me, .. yet I am trying to prove myself to nothing but a mental image. So it's definitely a common after hell by-product of the shell shock phenomena.. I suspect Gunn has a bit of knowledge of this, whether via documentaries, personal experience of himself or friend.. or is kind of influenced by Psycho, Ed Gein, etc

Peacemaker shoots his father with a Luger pistol -- a gun closely associated with the Nazis especially during WWII. Peacemaker uses a P-90 submachine gun against the butterflies. Dead pan faces moving in sync (showed as well in the jail invasion cene) and how united everyone would be under their so called vow. Years before he died, Roger Ebert said that when you see a bad performance in a movie it’s it’s almost never the actor, it’s always the direction or the writing. I legitimately thought Chris'/Peacmakers' reason for killing Goff and the cow was one of the most realistic aspects of a hero defeating a villain in a movie/show. It wasn't because he thought it was right or he wanted to be a hero...he did it because he cared about what his team thought and didn't want to let them down. No personal glory...just wanted to make his new friends happy. Then he goes and tells Adebayo (who betrayed him just like he betrayed Rick Flagg) that's she's his 2nd best friend next to Eagley. Such a good scene.

You know I'm a dreamer But my heart's of gold I had to run away high So I wouldn't come home low Just when things went right It doesn't mean they were always wrong Just take this song And you'll never feel left all alone Take me to your heart Feel me in your bones Just one more night And I'm coming off this long and winding road I'm on my way I'm on my way Home sweet home Tonight, tonight I'm on my way I'm on my way Home sweet home You know that I've seen Too many romantic dreams Up in lights, falling off the silver screen My heart's like an open book For the whole world to read Sometime nothing keeps me together at the seams

Was late to the party because I was not a DC fan. But after two episodes, I was binge-watching the whole show. Glad I stuck around, the whole show was awesome.

The best cameos are the ones you don't see coming and this one wins hands down.
I just about lost my $hit when the JL showed up, moreso when Mamoa and Miller were actually there!

I think this is the best season of a show since Fargo season 1. Maybe it's because both came from established properties, both had people thinking "why the fuck would you do that?" but, ultimately, because they both BLEW US AWAY with how legitimately good they are EDIT: Let James Gunn do whatever he wants, all the time

Tying the helmet to the raccoon was a reference to Pineapple Express when Sol suggest catching a Squirrel and tying their phones to it so the cops will chase after the squirrel but Dale says they’d never catch one

Chris seeing his dad when he finds his helmet might be a nod to how ij the Original Peacemaker comics, he thinks that the souls of people he kills are trapped inside his helmet

My favourite conversation was where Vigilante and Peacemaker were trying to interpret Gof’s tapping on the inside of the glass and Vigilante asked if his favourite colour was teal 😅 That whole exchange was fucking hilarious.

It was a great show and I'm sad it's over. I knew Cena could carry this and that we'd love him by the end.... or by the start. I don't really need another season. Give us a couple more solo shows of other Suicide Squad members and then get them back together to take down Amanda Waller in SS sequel. I'd like to see a Ratcatcher, Polkadot Man, Deadshot and King Shark series.
