Thank you, this is a proper tutorial. All other "tutorials" are just showing synthesia footage. Thanks for explaining. I'm a beginner and eager to learn piano.

The Intro and Chorus use a popular Japanese chord progression called in English "Royal Road Progression" or "Ōdō shinkō."

I would like to suggest a song tutorial. It’s called Where does your Spirit go? by The Kid Laroi. I have a strong personal connection to the lyrics and would love to be able to play it. Thanks

Hello! Great tutorial, very illustrative and clear. Thank you! I have a question, though. What are those connections you do at the end of each intro, as well as from the intro to the verse. In other words, you play something extra to connect Bb min back to the Gb to either repeat or to go to the chorus. Thank you. I am a piano beginner, and trying to absorb everything I can. My little nephew is taking piano lessons, but to a very basic level still, and not as visual as this. I want to be able to teach him this song, and have fun!

Hi! Great question. At the end of the intro, we play the Bb minor chord using a Bb and Db in the right hand. To add some movement to the chord, we move up to a C and Eb, and then to a Db and F. Technically speaking, this motion is referred to as "parallel thirds," as each of the pairs of notes are an interval of a third apart, and they are moving the same direction on the keyboard, or "parallel." In reality, it's just some added notes to add interest on our Bb minor chord. Each set of four chords acts as a phrase, so the notes on beats 3 and 4 also rhythmically smooth out the transition from the end of the first line, or phrase, into the next line. Hope that helps!

Thank you! It did helped for sure. Now it make sense. Initially I though it was an extra chord, but now I understand. Great thing about good written music, even the simplest of them , is that we learn about resources and tricks that it just smartly works, and then we can apply those to other songs to add richness and interest to it… am I right?

I don’t like this a whole ton. You teach the cords, then show what it sounds like but “what it sounds like” is not just the cords. Yet you don’t break that up. Your left hand plays some add-ins that honestly are what make the song sound like it does. So we are left to just pause and try it until we hopefully get to it. Makes this process a lot less simple. Slow down and show exactly what you are playing, not just what the cords are.
@JoshLange

Thanks for the feedback Austin. Don't forget that you can always slow down the song in the video settings, so you can practice the trickier parts. I teach the chords primarily because once you understand the chords, it's much easier to understand the melody, and you aren't having to remember a bunch of individual notes, but simply a few phrases broken down by chords.
