That's one sweet victory.
@gabclair642

The pure wave of emotions when he said "Capone". As someone who loves gangster history the moment Polly said "Chicago" my hair stood up. Tommy had so much glee in his eyes when he said "Alphonse Capone" he was essentially said "We invited the devil out to play". From America to Europe, Capone's name sent shivers wherever it reached. I highly doubt that the series is going in that direction but if Capone was featured in future seasons that would be the absolute best. Doubt it though.
@Ejk1221

Everyone got goosebumps when he said alphonse capone. It ties in his rise in the states to tommy's rise in England and even though he wasn't a huge influence in america at the time, people knew him as someone to watch out for just like tommy shelby wasn't always the big bad top dog but was still feared because of his drive and relentless brutality in pursuit to get to the top
@Ejk1221
3 жыл бұрын
Capone may not have been the biggest or baddest in the states but he was someone who wanted to be on top so bad that luca knew it was over when they said his name, just like those in birmingham knew they were done for when tommy shelby wanted what they had. You don't have to be the biggest scariest or richest to be feared and make it to the top, you just have to have the drive and ambition to do whatever it takes until you get there.

@gabclair642
3 жыл бұрын
@@Ejk1221 "You've been talking to that fat fuck?" before that line and through out it you can see that insult is purely for appearances. Luca is visibly scared. His people had to deal with Al Capone in America, he knew they weren't going to split resources to get vengeance on the Shelby family and defend themselves against the advances of Capone. And you raise a good point of not needing to be the biggest or baddest. Even Alfie Solomons, a veteran, a former rival of Sabini, and a prominent crime boss in london, is seen to shift around and avoid consequences of seemingly lesser forces because he knows their drive is enough to be scared of. Like the scene when he makes a deal with luca and asks for compensation for the fact that Arthur shelby would try to come kill him, while it's a funny scene, Alfie was dead serious in his fear. One single gangster was wild and aggressive enough to put caution and fear into him.
@Ejk1221
3 жыл бұрын
Tommy and alfie both know enough and are smart enough to know that winning the war is more important than winning every little battle and that pride and ego have no place in business or war. Luca came over to prove that he and his family are the baddest there is and wanted to remind the Shelby's at every move he made instead of being strategic. Even up until the end, letting him believe arthur was dead and that he had won shows the humility Tommy has and patience he has to get what he wants. Tommy and luca and alfie can all hold their own when it comes to war and killing but being able to win strategically without the use of violence or physical force is something luca never had. Tommy and alfie could outsmart him at every turn because they can recognize when they can or can't defeat someone and when they can't do something on their own, when they aren't strong enough or equipt to win a battle by themselves. the terror on lucas face when he realizes tommy had beat him by using his brain instead of violence makes the hair on your neck stand up. Even going back to alfie and tommy's beginning, alfie knew he had to back down when tommy said he placed a grenade and even though he was sure it was a bluff, he was smart enough to set his pride aside and recognize that even though tommy probably was lying, that lie was brilliant and anyone smart enough to orchestrate a threat like that wasn't someone alfie wanted to make a direct enemy of.

Little detail I enjoyed is that canonically Thomas was a beast at hand to hand combat as stated by Cillian Murphy due to his role in the First World War. Thomas would dig tunnels and as stated by Cillian would constantly have to fight because enemies would also dig tunnels and sometimes they would cross paths. So when Luca decided to get really close to Thomas and stay close, Thomas was able to find an opening immediately and rag doll him.

As great as the acting is you gotta respect the writing. Changretta was a villain you loved to watch. The kind of villain who steals scenes. And yet we he died both me and my brother jumped up and cheered. A captivating villain that you love to see and enjoy when they lose isn't easy to write. Kudos to the writers for pulling it off brilliantly.

I watched this episode three times, and I finally can say, that season 4 worked out greatly, but I still think, that it was very amateurish for a show this good not to leave a scar on Arthur's neck after his garroting. I also think, that after their fist apperance, the Changretta gang was a bit underpowered. Killing one more major character should have given them a bit more weight. And I feel terribly sorry for my favourite, Alfie Solomons, even tho his role was perfectly executed with all his "future tellings", and how he made up his own way out of cancer. "Now there's an honourable reason to pull that trigger." Just fantastic.
