miced with sm58 on a G1265 spekaer and a sm57 on a vintage 30 in a marshall 1960 cab. Boss super overdrive as a boost and a BBE sonic maximizer in the effets loop
These Peavey amps, man..... it don't matter what genre, which player, what amp settings or which pedals are boosting it, how it's mic'd or mixed and uploaded, they just have that inherent texture that sounds...... almost natural and..... so.... ummmm... TEXTURED, i guess. Love it!

I just bought a Peavey 6505 mh amp, is it the same if I set the tone like your 6505 series?
@zyxwfish

Probably not. I only owned this amp for a month. The tone is fine but I prefer the feel of my fender m-80 or crate TDP preamp. Playing feel.

You would be able to get much closer to this sound with a Peavey 6505+ 112 combo. You'd also get 60W instead of 20W in case you wanted to push a big cab with it. I bought mine for $400 with a new $150 V30 installed in it.

My first amp was an extremely shitty peavey. Are they still around today?

Peavey? Yes

They aren't the American brand they used to be, but they remain as a global brand like almost everyone else. One of the main secrets to Josh Homme's highly regarded tone is a "shitty peavey". I've heard Zakk Wylde sound better than I do on a Hello Kitty guitar. I've come to the conclusion that if somehting sounds bad, it's usually a shitty player.

@funkingitup1805 interesting yeah I'm not saying they are all bad, just the one I had... it was like a small combo probably intended for a beginner, which I was. The poster of this video swears by the peavey rock master rackmount multi effect processor. I've also learned that a guitar tone that sounds bad by itself can fit perfectly into a mix sometimes hah.

Normally the 6505 has a sponginess but this sounds so dry and scrapey in a bad way. Was it boosted with an HM2? Edit: oh I see it was boosted with a boss od maybe the tone was cranked and the high process cranked on the BBE
@zyxwfish

The boss overdrive has that quality. I didn't crank the process on the BBE but I don't think the 6505+ has a sponginess. It's very tight even without pedals.

just a boss overdrive as a boost and a BBE sonic stomp in the effects loop.

@@zyxwfish I use the same pedals and a mxr 10 band eq for my peavey 3120. The sd1 and sonic stomp are a great pedal combination for extra aggressiveness and punch
