The media treatment of Reubens was where I began to hate entertainment reporting. It wasn't like the guy was out in public doing his thing in front of people. He was in an adult theater watching an adult movie. Was it an optimal personal moment? No. But he quite literally was harming no one. It only became a scandal because the media wanted it to be. The response expressed by the crowd showed the viewers how much they appreciated Paul Reubens. He didn’t get in trouble because of a DUI, drugs, domestic abuse or involuntary manslaughter. Reubens was targeted by the press of because of who he was. And shame on the network for immediately canceling his reruns after his arrest. But when he came back like this...I know he felt loved with all the cheers and praise. This was a true good time in history where people understood each other. Not like today. regular people are not perfect, and neither are celebrities. When a celebrity messes up or is caught doing something they shouldn't, it humanizes them, and it often deepens their bond with regular people. There is a human element to it. Take former President Trump, when the video came out of him talking vulgar about women. Lots of people thought that he was done, but what happened? He went outside Trump tower the next day, and there was a mob of supporters cheering for him, and he went on to win the presidency. If anything, that pussy video made him even more popular because it humanized him. Same thing here with PeeWee. He got even more loved and more popular after the incident.
