we have to remove this from entire sheets. We use a used cardboard tube from putting the pvc on. any tube will work. you peel the material from one edge and stick it to the tube. Then you roll the tube along the sheet. It peels the pvc off winding it on the tube. There is no need to slice the pvc sheet into removable ribbons. You remove the entire sheet almost the same way it was applied.

We do that but we spin the tube with a cordless drill

needing help! I ordered a 3' x 12' sheet of stainless which had this same protective covering on it. The sheet sat in the sun for 3 months and the layer both go thinner , brittle and the glue hardened. Nightmare ! Acetone works but it looks like I have a 8hr job ahead of me. Ideas????

acetone and elbow grease is the only method that's ever worked for me when trying to not mess up the surface finish. maybe soak a rag in acetone and let it sit over an area of the adhesive to soften it before wiping and work small areas at a time.

@@joshwooden69 thanks for answering! I made up a chisel out of plexiglass and started scraping. It actually scratched the stainless but peeled off the plastic. So I ended up using a softer nylon tool. Also I did have to use acetone for the glue. Job done !

Any idea on how to remove the residue left behind if this sticker was left on for a few years?

I just removed the white plastic film from a new stainless steel backsplash 30"x30". Start on one side peeling 30" and lift as you peel. Keep in one piece if possible but DO NOT use a blade to score it or you risk scratches in the steel. Patience, a bit at a time. It took me 20 minutes to get the film off.. Whew!

so, what I do is cut the head off of a TIG torch and the shaft of the torch is a coil of maybe 3/16" copper, so I uncoil enough of it to where I can hammer about an inch of it flat, then grind a flat edge and sharpen it with a file. the copper is softer than the stainless steel, so it won't scratch the SS.

@@mikel1530 I had a tech come to my place a couple of months ago to work on a robotic welder and new had an actual tool for cutting and pulling the film and I looked it up, but to buy it and import it to the states would've been like $200

Why not just peel the whole thing off in one piece? Then you don’t risk marring the steel or buying an expensive tool. Or destroying a tig torch for a little bit of copper.

easier said than done, copper doesn't mar the steel because it's softer and I use junk tig torches that would otherwise be thrown away.
