Having fun with looking around. An interesting thing about the plain old Papermate 1.0 ,which you can find 60 for about 20 bucks, is the range from light to real black you can get from them. I draw on newspaper, and I can go from barely there to solid black. In other words it can draw like a hard graphite pencil or a normal pen. Worth knowing about.

these pens are the best I've tried! Their ink flows surprisingly well, and no fuzzy lines have appeared. I use a 1mm and 0.35 mm pen for my inking, and I love it! They might be a bit pricey for starting artists, but I think their worth it. I've no problems with them. Maybe those Faber Castell pens are better, but I bet their a ton of money! That why personally I recommend these, and not some unknown edding pens that are like 10 cents

I feel like people tend to buy into the brand name of Micron pens since all the "cool people" use them. For me personally they dry out way to quickly and sometimes the nib gets shoved up into the pen which is beyond annoying. I prefer Pentel Technica since they're a roller ball so they feel more natural. Though if you really like fiber tipped pens there's a knock off version of Micron called Le Pen which I feel are a little bit sturdier...Just my 2 cents

i might give them a try. My Experience with the Microns here is, that if you crosshatch very fast, or make a long line, they tend to make a very ugly uneven line that is not pure black but like a old almost dry felttip. Iam surprised that they wear out so fast. My .008 somehow seems to just work when i hold him in a 90° angle with the paper. Thas hasn't been like this for always, but now the pen doesn't want to write anymore. Its really frustration if you wanna make even crosshatching, and the lines just are not nice anymore. Do you think it could have been something with the paper? I never really though about the paper sucking pens dry, but somehow i think this could be an issue.

Do you prefer thin tipped felt or gel pens? If you like gel tips, I can recommend the Uni Signo UMN-155 (RT1). They are archival proof as well, and the sizes available are .28 mm and 38 mm. The reason I asked is I do not like felt tips as they seem thicker than their tip sizes, and with the Micron, as people said, the ink runs out FAST.

I'm sorry, but I have to say that these are the worst pens i've ever used in my life, especially when drawing manga. Everytime I use it, the lines are fuzzy and dirty. I'm glad it doesn't bleed and it dries fast, but it don't see how people like this stuff. The lines aren't dark enough to make it into the scanner, and sometimes the lines are blurry or have a gray-ish tone to it. This happened to me ever since I first got the thing. Even deleter paper can't handle it, i'm sorry but i'm sticking to my pilot g2 pens :P Even though it takes a while to dry and can easily smudge, atleast it produces dark and smooth lines (best pens i've ever used)
@MetalGearRexPilot
10 жыл бұрын
That's odd. The things you are mentioning are problems I've never had. I know an artist who is having some of his work printed who swears by the pens, and his work looks absolutely phenomenal. He's created entire comic chapters using a No.2 pencil and Microns. Are you sure you're not just using low quality paper or just so happen to have a bad pen or two?
@peronvey
9 жыл бұрын
thats really weird, micron pens were the best art pens i've ever had. i've only had that fuzzy ink problem with other art pens, that's one reason i preferred micron. and for me they were always the darkest of all the other pens i've used.
@peronvey

Not to mention that sometimes the ink is dry when you hold it slanted like a pencil and sometimes there's so much ink on the page and the lines are very thick when you don't want them to be. Maybe because it's old, and I have to buy some new ones. It's not a 100% percent accurate with the ink, sometimes it comes out dry with barely any lines and sometimes if you're lucky the pen cooperates with you, but i'll give it another chance, a lot of comic artist use this pen and for some reason it works out for them and they provide smooth lines but for me it doesn't. Maybe it's their camera that makes it appealing?
@MetalGearRexPilot

Roger Hill I'd wager that it might be how you handle them, or that you got a bad set. These pens work phenomenally well for me. My only problem is I always have the shakes when I'm inking :/
@MatthewKiehl
10 жыл бұрын
I've been using these for about 5 years now. Most other stuff seems to fade or cause papers to yellow after exposure to light (for years). Depending on how I use these sometimes the tips actually improve with time getting finer and finer. I have some old ones that I set aside for special degrees of detail.
@squiddly9138
10 жыл бұрын
Just curious, do you think they'd be okay for use with watercolour paint?
@MatthewKiehl
10 жыл бұрын
Yes, often illustrators use microns to lay in details then they use watercolor on top. Watercolors work really well as a way to add color to drawings made with microns. The ink in micros is completely waterproof once dry so it shouldn't run at all. I sometimes use a method of soaking my paper after drawing, then applying watercolor while the paper is wet - even doing this the ink does not spread or run.
