Penang International Paddy Festival took place on August 2018 & 2019 at Kampung Terus, Penanti, Permatang Pauh, Seberang Perai, in Penang. The festival’s concept is Padi Heritage and Malay Heritage Village, showcasing Paddy and Malay Heritage. This festival is about preserving the 1,015 acres of Padi Heritage which had been planted since the 17th Century in the year 1800. It also aims to preserve the backwater river and the only freshwater wetland in Penang, the River Prai, and the community spirit of ‘Gotong Royong’.
The festival is unique that it features at least 15 Paddy Sculptures from discarded rice straws by local carpenters, farmers and villagers. The unique location of the Penang Paddy Festival site is at Kg Terus which is a 105 acre golden paddy field overlooking the beautiful view of the Mertajam Hill next to the Perai River and old back water River and Ayer Itam Dalam Educational Forest which has the only freshwater swamp or wetland in Penang with 150-223 migratory birds.
