I first heard this piece when I was 17 years old in college .I was hooked but recently I noticed he did the soundtrack music for The Exorcist .Very effective music say what you want about that movie but Its a masterpiece in modern cinema.Imitators everywhere like Jaws and Star Wars and every Masterpiece from the 70s .Growing up then I was fortunate to view those movies and the many imitators. Great creative decade.😜Heres to Deep Throat

I wasn't expecting at all that Penderecki himself would show up on the stage just casually like that. This is so great!

An extraordinary masterpiece from the avant-garde polish music from 1960 and probably one of the greatest piece and most moving music by Krzysztof Penderecki !

He is a director of Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in USA and guest conductor with many major orchestras around the world, very talented, I have seen him live , just amazing. Unfortunately this year he’s ending his contract with ISO , I’m afraid he’s leaving USA .

Mostly this is a very boring piece of music to listen to except the chaotic part. with all the pizzicato's and such. If a violinist made a mistake no one would know or notice. I wonder if many did make mistakes.

I'm not sure the conductor is strictly necessary
@ianite9078

If you look up the score to this piece a conductor is absolutely necessary. There isn’t a time signature or a real pulse to this piece. In the score each bar is measured in seconds opposed to a solid meter. With the sharp cues and cut offs and layering of parts, it would be impossible for the orchestra of over 50 players to all together feel the piece and it play successfully
