The captain of black shirts apparently has no clue about the rules...

I have to watch it over with 0.25 play speed. What I saw is the ball already went to the opponent court but the setter brought it back.

Doesn't the ball need to be completely over the net on the opponents side to be ruled as illegal back court player contact ?
@DamianSheesh
8 ай бұрын
This wasn't an illegal back court contact as the ball was not entirely higher than the height of the net. The illegal play was the setter bringing the ball back over once it had broken the vertical plane of the net. In other words, the setter interfered with the other team's play. Once the midline of the ball has crossed the vertical plane of the net, play has switched sides.

@@DamianSheesh No. 1) The ball was completely above the top of the net at the moment of the touch by blue team's setter. But he did not execute an attack hit, so this fact doesn't matter. 2) There is no rule about the ball breaking the vertical plane by 10 %, 60 % or 90 %. The player is simply not allowed to play (touch) the ball inside the opponent's space (except under the net or during a legal block). The player (blue team) did not execute a block because the ball did not come from the opponent. If the player had managed to play the ball on his side or exactly in the plane of the net, no fault would have been committed. No matter how far the ball had broken the plane of the net. Conclusion: The hit (touch) on the ball happened inside the opponent's space. The hit was no block. In the case of reaching over the net it doesn't matter whether it is a front or back player. Edit: You are not allowed to play (location of the touch) the ball inside the opponent's space when it broke the plane of the net by only 5 %. You are allowed to play (location of the touch) the ball on your own side or in the plane of the net, even when 95 % of the ball are inside the opponent's space.

Ik zou zeggen : fout van de scheidsrechter. Alleen als de bal volledig over het net is, mag je er niet meer aankomen. Dus een dubbel fout geven.

If the blocker made simultaneous contact when the ball in the plane of the net then the correct call would have been a backrow block. Since the ball was still in the plane of the net, and there was no contact made by the defensive blocker this should have been a legal play.

@@AnthonyDeBellaI am just wondering how reluctant one can be. There is a ref with how much more hours invested in refereeing pro Volleyball, that has a video challenge, looks at it and explains the rules. Is it really necessary to differ? Have look at FIVB 2020 Casebook 3.10.: “Each team must play the ball within its own playing area and space (except in the case of Rule 10.1.2). Above the top of the net, the position of the hand should be considered. Therefore, since the setter has hit the ball in the opponent’s space, the setter committed a fault.” www.fivb.com/-/media/2020/fivb%20corporate/volleyball/rules%20of%20the%20game/casebook%202020/last%201/vb_casebook_2020.pdf?la=en&hash=79B9B89C0023CEBA4DAD058C106C51A4

I do not understand, everything looks perfect and that is a very basic rule... Why the referee is making this mistake?

You are not allowed to play the ball in the opponents playing area. Setter made contact on the opponents side, therefore committed a reaching fault.
@bluepawn

@@mog5353 The setter has correctly taken the ball... the ball is not 100% on the opponent's court. This referee has done something not legal even the challenge in this situation and he doesn't care... That's why maybe we do not see this referee anymore on the level of competition ? It's not a problem that the referee makes the mistake but even a challenge with the video informs about the fault... or another situation : the right team has asked a BAD Challenge... (net touch)... there's no net touch... so the Challenge is wrong and the referee must give the bad point to the bad team. Unfortunely it's the stupidity of this Challenge rule... even when it's very clear who is right.

@@bluepawn what are you talking about. the setter clearly has fingers over the net. That is not allowed, you see it on the challenge. The call is right. THE POSITION OF THE BALL DOESNT MATTER, the position of the hand is what you have to look at, you are not allowed to touch a ball in opponent space (except finishing an attack that began in your space. 11.4.1 violation regarding the challenge - I am not that 100% on challenges as I am not quite at the highest level yet but from what I know when the wrong challenge is called and the mistake is seen you lose the challenge but get the point.

The setter is in the back line... He s not allowed to attack... He can set (touch) the ball until the entire ball is over the net on entirely on the opponent's court. As soon as a block touch the setter s ball (he has the priority) = fault. The challenge inform about the referee's fault.
