Best reviews Eva. Best looking reel Eva. And the toughest Here is a funny story in relation to the price, I went with some mates on month fishing trip to Australia great barrier reef. The trip was expensive but not my 3 set of slammer3 I took with me and it was a the best three weeks of fighting big fish, and it was my first trip too. The funny part that I was laughed at by my mates/friends and called me stingy that I should go and get some proper fishing gear. Within the three weeks of pulling up giant fish everyday it was shocking to see some of the high end reel, some of them were just unboxed on the ship smoked out and need services., while my penn slammer3 7500, 8500, and 10500 lasted the 3 weeks war against 20lb- 300lb fish everyday and my slammer has already 3 years old. We had some beers on the last and ship captain approached me and all he said was what the price range on my slammer3 and I told him. I heard from one of friends he went again on the same trip and all the spinning reels on the ship are penn slammer3, and the customer are happy with its performance and they are very tough and good looking they said. Do I need to spend a $1000 on spinning reels? No Thanks for great reviews man good job, Cheers from New Zealand!!

One reason to have an arched foot ; It ensures the 2 points of contact "seat" as far away from each other as possible, if it is flat you can't be assured of where the contact points are. Farther apart is more stable, less prone to "rock/pivot". Only need a mild arch for that, but the more pronounced arch is probably for aesthetics and possible a fuller contact point for the hand.

Gratitude! 🙏 -------- stuff i forgot: the Penn bail mech is superb, very strong, no premature tripping reliability is fantastic! i only know one case of the auto-trip ramp possibly failing or being corroded, otherwise everyone i know with one loves it yes, it's a heavy reel, hence the title. but it's so strong and well-built that you can afford to downsize per application to even out the weight difference (use a SLAIII3500 where'd you'd normally use a 4000, etc) the line backing ISN'T rubber (my bad), it's actually an etched pattern in the aluminum meant to grab braid the reel foot is cleated, might prevent it from slipping in your reel mount a bit better

Then I installed the EVA-knob and goddamn now this reel just works perfectly for me. Still not as smooth as the BG and the startup inertia is a nightmare but its just a beast now. So as much as I love the look with the big golden knob - the EVA-knob saved this reel for me.

If your still around can you please rate the bg smoothness 1-10 vs the penn slammer 3 smoothness 1-10? I have a bg 2500 i know they make all other reels seem "not so smooth".... but wondering how close the slammer III is. Maybe after a break in period did things smooth out, or is it not even close?
@BadSensation
6 жыл бұрын
If the BG would be rated at 8 then the slammer would be a 5 - and thats after a break-in period. The slammer III has a metal rotor - which makes start up inertia a lot heavier than the BG. And the slammer III is sealed very well - which also reduces the smoothness quite a bit. So you're basically sacrificing smoothness for sealing and ruggedness. To give you an example - did you notice that when you bring the BGs handle to an upward position it will usually just "go down" on its own and turn a half turn just because the handle weight is enough to turn the rotor? You could never do that with the Slammer III. If you're mainly fishing in saltwater then the Slammer III is easily the better option. If not then the BG is the better choice for sure.
@coolkid6364
6 жыл бұрын
@@BadSensation big thanks for the reply, I fish mostly inshore salt water i still might go with the bg. It has turned me into a smoothness snob (I throw alot of lures)... I'm always careful about salt water on my reels, it would be no biggy to tear down and lube either.
@BadSensation
6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's the better choice. And with "tackle advisors" tutorial on how to maintain the BG properly you won't run into any trouble anyway. Besides - the replacement parts for the BG are more available and cheaper than the slammer III parts. I use my BG4000 for 90% of my fishing and only use the slammer III when I'm far out on a boat where I just need something I could throw in the water or could drop on a boat without worrying about it. What you could do to upgrade the BG is replacing some of the ball-bearings with the sealed ball bearings from the Saltist - should be fairly cheap to get and easy to replace.

Do you know if there’s a way to make the 5000 manual close?
@ishwithfish
5 жыл бұрын
yes, in most reels if you remove the auto trip ramp mechanism within the rotor, you can make it a manual bail trip.

Ish With Fish I saw. I think the 5500’s 22 oz w 40 lbs of drag. Probably gonna go w that and make the bail close manual.

Isn't the Torque their best spinning reel?
@ishwithfish

technically it's the heaviest duty. but it's limited to large game. the slammer is the best available and accessible penn spinner for any saltwater species.

Probably cost some $45 or less to make and they're selling them for 250 plus dollars. Wonder if these are made in the USA or China
@ishwithfish
5 жыл бұрын
well yeah, they are a for-profit business. you can find slammer iii's on amazon on flash sale for 150 if you're lucky. these are made in china i believe. don't forget, Pure Fishing owns Penns now, same family as Zebco, Shakespeare, etc.

Griffin I understand a for-profit company but for ripping off customers off. Because China might be able to make a decent product as well but if it's actually made in China. They probably cost him $15 to make it. your paying 200 + for it. I guess I should have made my statement a little bit more direct. I think the China made Penn reels are way overpriced because of their reputation what they used to be. And you know opinions are like assholes everybody's got one. Have a good day my man. And before i hurt anybody's feelings out there something is only worth what somebody will pay for it . this is just my opinion I'm not saying Penn reels made from China are all shit. well maybe I am but don't get butthurt

@@theeabster1983 Penn's "Z" series reels are the lowest-priced "made in USA" reels offered by ANY manufacturer. After the "Z's", the next-cheapest USA spinning reel is over $500. Penn also makes some decent reels in China at around $99, and even $79, for anglers who just don't have any more money than that. What reels do you use, where do they make them, and how much do they cost?

This thing is a beast, but too heavy for surf fishing. I just grap Daiwa ballistic lt 5000,. Almost same drag power but 1/3 the weight of this reel

I get the feeling the new spinfisher vi will cannibalize all other penn reel sales and the daiwa BG. Its price point and extra sealing will capture most fisherman's wallets for some time to come. You just used my cannibalize comment lol.

I have spinfisher VI 3500 and it's ok. After some heavy salt fishing only the roll is a bit noisy.(need some hot souce) Today I bought this one, slammer III 4500. I can se that line will not get stuck before getting on roller. It happens in S.F. Generally I have moved up from Shimano Plastics to that. From my personal perspective both reel's are really tuff.

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzitem.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

Why do u keep mentioning the battle and the fierce? Those are like Walmart reels haha. The conflict and conflict 2 are way better than this two. Clash is dope too. Slammers are super heavy
@ishwithfish
6 жыл бұрын
i use the battle ii and fierce ii as a baseline since most subs probably have one. agreed, i have 2 conflicts i's and a clash, very solid reels! but the slammer is different; almost like a penn version of the spheros or gosa, spins different/better than the penn models just below it. a 3500 slammer iii will catch everything in wc surf and weighs about what an avg 4000 reel does.
@fishthepacific4312

Coza King I agree, Clash is $hit. I sent my reel back to Penn twice before giving up and just keeping it for bait fishing only. I like the size and feel of the Clash, but the main gear is just plain $hit! I got the Battle 2 and Spheros and love them both- no issues.

They are more of a rural king pole you will be lucky to find either at a walmart around here.... I have had a fierce II 5000 for over 5 years now and its still pretty smooth for never being taken apart ($99 for rod and reel at the time seemed cheap). I have had to mess with the line roller a time or 2 but thats it, and expected with a bushing. that being said my daiwa bg 2500 blows it away i dont want to even touch it anymore, in the market for an upgrade on the 5000.

I've actually fished with both the BG and the Clash. I prefer the clash for throwing lures all day. I'm retired but work part time at bass pro shop Daytona beach and I can compare pretty much all reels available. And I have no reason to be biased either.

Spend the money and get a Van Staal. They last forever and they are built better than any other spinning reel on the market by far. The entire reel is machined aluminum , not molded cheap aluminum like most expensive reels. Van Staal has machined stainless gears throughout, Penn reels have cheaply made internal components. Head to head , no spinning reel on the market can match Van Staal for durability, quality , and longevity. There's a reason why very serious saltwater anglers choose Van Staal , especially surf fishing.
