Penn State's Community, Environment, and Development (CED) major is a hands-on education that looks at the opportunities and problems faced by communities abroad and at home. Our students are passionate about topics like domestic and international development, environmental quality, and sustainability!
In this major, you'll learn the skills to help create positive and sustainable change, exploring global issues like climate change, water quality, and the balance between food security and energy development.
Study local and international land development, food supply systems, and governance practices that are socially, economically, and environmentally sound.
Learn how to assess the problems communities and organizations face and gain the skills to help stakeholders work effectively together.
This major has four options:

Graduates go on to leadership roles in local government, nonprofits, and other organizations, or continue advanced academic work.
