The best thing about the "candy bar" is that it looks like a deck of cards in his pocket. Any magician would expect him to be carrying a second deck for a deck switch, so when he reveals it's actually just chocolate, Penn and Teller burst into laughter.

I bet he does a deck switch indeed and this is just misdirection
@JPLYUKI
20 күн бұрын
@@AntonAdelson imo Penn and Teller would appreciate this even more since they're masters at misdirecting you even though you know what to look for. Check out their take on the classic cup and balls trick with clear plastic cups. You can see the sleight of hand as it happens, but it's still absolutely magical.
@ImAnBoosterBaby
20 күн бұрын
@@AntonAdelson Not necessarily, although possible. He also does the fake sleight of hand with the empty hand on his chin. After all, the routine was designed to first and foremost impress and entertain magicians (at FISM, not P&T), not a regular audience.
@twinklesprinkle1318
20 күн бұрын
He does a switch later at 4:18. The whole act is very clever: He draws over the signature so that he can easily forge signed cards. Then halfay in the trick he does this switch. Then the "pause" is just misdirection, to make you forget about what happened. The fact that some seemingly random cards are face up, plus that he flips the kings and another random card, makes you think it's a normal deck, and marries well with the chaotic style. But the forged signed cards were here since this instant, and there is just no way you can trace it back if you're seeing it the first (or 5th) time because of all the chaos, even if the switch itself is not really hidden.
@AntonAdelson

@@twinklesprinkle1318 Yep, that's more or less exactly what I wrote in my another comment here! But you gave a lot more details! Thank you! This whole thing is like 10 minutes of pure non-stop misdirection master-class!

The deck switch at 4:18 is so smartly done 😊 in the previous pack, markobi was showing that all the cards were different, then switched with a pack that contains few cards side up and lot of signed cards…but how Markobi managed to put the remaining 3 K at the position 5 of each pack in such a chaotic way is simply amazing!

How did he do the last switch? The Very last move.
@xaviertsui9471
25 күн бұрын
@@Conqoo you mean when Markobi reveal the signed king of clubs? I don't think there is any switch. My guess is that the switched deck contains only pre-signed KC except for the few cards that have been displayed face up on purpose and the bottom card. Therefore, Penn could have selected any face down card and it would have been a KC. To confirm my theory: 1. the card displayed by Markobi is clearly not the same as the one that Brooke and Markobi signed. 2. After the deck switch I didn't see any move that are reversing the orientation of cards, therefore some cards were already face up in the switched deck. 3. Many actions/elements have been added by Markobi after the deck switch. This is so smart as usually the trick happens right after the switch. In this case the effect happened over 3 minutes after the switch. People already have forgotten that a card switch happened or didn't even linked the 4:18 move as a deck switch opportunity but rather an effect showing the transformation of a deck of cards into a single one.

Of course, "K" was a forced card and more "K" cards were described - the description of the first "K" is not the same as the description "K" at the end. The "awkwardness" was supposed to convince that the cards were different. It is a good trick that requires an obedient audience, which Penn and Teller are - they never look at cards if they are not invited. The trophy had to be handed over because Penn guessing deck replacement. However, this trick does not require such a switch - the magician made several tricks "from his pocket" in advance to convince the audience of this possibility. The magician is a very knowledgeable man and deserves the trophy.

I love how the bumbling, nervous persona hides the incredible precision actually being applied. Such a great routine and so very well done.

Huge number. It's so well written, the character also serves the process. This FISM prize rewards intelligent writing, exceptional technique and daring. An important detail, for us French: it's particularly pleasing to finally see a card trick perfectly filmed on TV, something we don't know how to do in France. It really highlights the quality and complexity of the routine. Fun fact: in France, no one picks from the bag of chips, whereas everyone is more relaxed and playful here.

OMG! Some of the tricks I guessed when I saw his performance at FISM were completely negated by Penn's change. Thank you for showing me a great performance. [DeepL]
