It is incredible how close they are standing while the car whizzes past.

Thanks PackardGuy, but I have to set the record straight. This film was done for Ab Jenkins' September 1933 run, not the '32 run. I have been researching Pierce runs for years, and this is how they went: 1932 (unsanctioned) time was 112.91 mph average, 1933 run (sanctioned by AAA) was 117.85 mph, and the 1934 run (sanctioned) was 127.22 mph. The '32 run was in a stripped-down 1932 roadster with vertical grille, the '33 run was in a stripped-down '33 roadster with slanted grille and hood louvers as you can see in this film, and the '34 run was done in a custom-bodied boat tail speedster. I have all 3 films and performance certificates.

Did you ever convert the films to digital? I'm dying to see them, especially the boat tail speedster in '34. Let me know! - jon

This was filmed in September, 1932 at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Ab Jenkins is testing the new, 1932 Pierce Arrow 462 cubic inch V-12 in a 24-hour endurance run. His average speed was 112.91 mph.

Now days you could break that record in a Toyota Camry, with the air conditioning on. Ab sure liked going fast for a long period of time in a great big circle. I guess he liked the scenery out there. He really tore it up in his Dusie Metior. I bet he'd have loved stock car racing. They'd have to race for a day or two to satisfy him though.

It's not eaay driving at speed on the Salt and Ab Jenkins must have been one tough man to drive at 120 MPH for hour after hour .

This film was most likely made at the early 1930's as Pierce Arrow did not last the Great Depression.
