I love magic for the variety of decks to play against so it's incredibly frustrating to see mirror matches so often. Like I get that there's only so many decks in rotation and most people follow meta but it's so common to have a string of games that are just the deck you built to answer a meta and you don't really get to play against those decks, just yourself.

Crap Matchmaking at work. Totally agree with you. I make an anti burn deck and magically, I'm only playing against control decks. I play an Esper deck and I play other Esper decks half the time. Think it's better if you play on the ladder vs Standard play.

The matchmaker does feel tuned towards mirrors, but in my experience once you grind through a couple of them it doesn’t have a choice but to start giving you the statistically likely opponents lol

The matchmaking on aren is rigged, what do you expect? On top of that why do you think streamers switch up their decks so often? Not only to keep playing new stuff. It's because arena throws you easier and more spread out games if your running a "new" deck. Rather than running you against what your deck sucks against.... Think about how many mono red decks are being played.... And then how often mono red hits mirrors....

This is why when Arena asks me, "Did you have fun?" I always hit the frowny face. I will only have fun once the matchmaker is heavily modified or eliminated.

Mirrex was the MVP of that game. I was really hoping to see an O-Kagachi Made Manifest trigger, but alas. I have yet to see CGB win a game by decking (while not playing mill); these games always seem to end by damage right before it’s about to happen. 😅

Hello. First of all tanks for the vidéo, it was a good fight. Mirex is so important, i find it fun to witness. Then question about deckbuilding : would you include the soul partition + blue battle + devious cover up in sideboard for this kind of matchup. My thought is soul partition is straight up a good card, especially when you can use it to bounce ETB creatures. It is also a instant, so one more card from atraxa. I was thinking that i would cut asuza many journey for that, which is dangerous against mono red and mono white i think. Did you test this idea ? How well did it do? Have a nice day.

I’ve played against something like that and they beat me, but my deck had a bad matchup against these 5C ramp decks. I’m not sure it’s gonna net you more wins in the end though. Aggro can get under you as you start adding more expensive cards, whereas control will be able to grind you out. Still, give it a try, brewing is fun and gives you a better understanding of the game! I might be talking completely out of my ass here and you go on to rank 1 mythic

The Invasion of Arcavios would be good to get silver bullet style cards. Specifically for the mirror both players will have a lot of cards in this matchup once both find their Atraxas, so countering one spell is decent as a tempo play and will only be a large swing at critical moments. Probably if you want to really break it open against the opponent Breach the Multiverse will really jump you ahead in the mill wincon (and will get you a ton of draw with the Atraxas). Since it's Bo1, though, there's no reason you can't include both in the sideboard. Unfortunately, there's not a good uncounterable sorcery/instant for the Control matchup like Banefire in Standard atm. Soul Partition would also be a fine 1-of for rebuying Invasion of Arcavios, saving Leyline Bindings from removal, or making tempo a play against the opponent, though it is kind of hard to find a slot for it (and Invasion) as you might need the Azuzas in the faster Bo1 metagame. You can put a card that can rebuy Invasion in the sideboard, though, and Invasion can replace Etali as it's an alternate way to end the game.
