Just pulled my old 67 out of the cabinet and it totally wasn't working. Need to probably buy a fresh battery, but I think I'm gonna have to open it up and clean some of the contacts. You're video showed me that it isn't that difficult so thank you!

Heya,. so bought a well cleaned and regularly maintained Pentax 6x7 MLU with the TTL prism. Put a few rolls through it and it worked great, metering was accurate and all but thing started to happen when I switched the battery to 4LR44 batteries. Loaded a new roll with the new battery and it worked great until the 4th shot and the mirror got stuck halfway. Reset the camera, loaded a new battery, same 4LR44 and same thing happened. Did a battery check and it was fine so reset the camera again and loaded a third new battery. Tried a lower shutter speed and the camera worked again and eventually got stuck again few shots in. Decided to just burst through the remaining shots, opened the back and did dry fires with the new batteries and it worked 3-4 shots in a got stuck again. Was super pissed so when and bought silver oxide battery, loaded it into the camera and everything worked fine. Managed to shoot a proper whole new roll with it. Based on my research online, some people never had issues with 4LR44 batteries and some do, I suspect might be my TTL meter but mine has an off switch which is always off. So if anyone can shed some information, would be much appreciated as well. RIP Kodak Ektar 100, luckily wasn't slide film.

Great and informative video. Thanks for taking the time to share the video. These really are a great workhorse and have had mine for the last 10 odd years. A waste level finder really brings these to life for landscape and architectural photography. The only stupid thing I have manged to do in the past is loose the battery holder. Battery is held in with tape currently. Looking for a battery holder if you know of one going spare.

Thoughts on addressing the common "tight film advance" issue on our 6x7's? Seems like it happens often: Once counter gets to zero with film, that lever is suspiciously tense advancing film 😢 Thank you for this and all your videos!

I'm about to clean one of this cameras, great info here, I was having issues with a new battery and the shutter getting stuck on fast settings (over 60) that was getting the lens stuck open, I believe now watching your video that is not getting a good connection on the shutter dial and probably getting ont that "t" mode

Hi, I had the same issue, quite common, surprising how much dirt was on the speed selector connections, a bit of contact cleaner should help, it is quite an easy job, the harder one is the mirror solenoid cleaning, it requires a bit of disassembly as outlined in the video, mine has worked flawlessly since, any problems please feel free to come back to me 😊

My 6x7 refuses to fire unless I remove the prism and lens, then remount them. (camera works and triggers fine once I’ve done this. But I’m having to do it EVERY time I use it.) This is causing me to have a lot of exposed and unused film. Any idea why this is?

Thanks so much for sharing this useful video - I've followed all the steps and found it really useful. I don't know if you have heard of this issue but my 'mint'' 6x7 (no mirror lockup) exposes first frame fine - then remaining frames until the last (half) frame is exposed again. I've run two films through now, same result. Any ideas?? Many thanks for your generous time.

Hi, and thanks for your kind words, these medium format cameras are really fussy about film tightness, it is important to keep the film and backing paper taught during loading, I have experienced the frame overlap issue on various 120 cameras... Secondly the advance mechanism might be the problem, check this by running just a backing paper through the camera, fire the shutter on the B setting with the lens removed and run a pen/pencil round the shutter opening, leaving a mark on the backing paper, advance the paper as though it was film and repeat till the roll is complete, open the back, remove the paper and examine, this will quickly identify if the advance mechanism is faulty.... Please feel free to come back to me if you need further advice 🙂

You really seem to know your 67s! I have a non MLU 6 x 7 with film feeding issues (shockinga I know.) The frames are evenly spaced but the quarter inch space causes the last frame to be truncated. The feed also feels quite stiff when cocking the shutter. The left spool moves fairly freely but there is a rubberized roller on the right side that spins freely from right to left but stops when turning in the film feed direction. This seems like it would add a lot of friction to the system but I don’t know if this is normal or not. Is that correct or is there a problem with that roller? Any other advice on how I might address these problems? I’m not sure I can justify the cost of a cla for this old camera. Thanks for any help or information.

Hi, sorry to hear about your issue, it's not a battery related issue, I suspect it relates to dirty contacts on the mirror solenoid, to clean this, some disassembly is required, removing the left side outer skin and removing some cover plates, a good CLA should sort it out, where in the World are you located?

How would you say that the mirror lockup and non-lockup models compare internally? I've heard to stay away from the non lockup, but is that mostly a factor or more age, or some inadequacy with the design?
@thephotographersbag
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I haven't been inside a non MLU version so unable to comment but I expect any difference to be minor The big issue is the vibration due to mirror slap, they are extremely heavy and solid but that big mirror banging about makes slowish shutter speeds almost impossible without a sturdy tripod, I don't think age of any camera is an issue, maybe they should have included MLU from the start, these were always professional cameras and benefit from regular servicing, not a particularly onerous task 😁

@@thephotographersbag I've just been looking into buying one and I've heard that the non mlu version is less reliable, and others say they've handheld down to ⅒th with and without mlu and couldn't tell a difference, so I was unsure which I should buy. The one without lockup is generally cheaper, even in the same shape.

@@mikafoxx2717 Hey, wow ,I could not hand hold at that low speed but I am old now! The lower price of the non MLU versions signifies to me that they are less popular and slower to sell, if you mainly shoot at the 1over focal length of the lens, all will be fine, so say 125th with the standard lens, I can shoot my 55mm wide angle at a 60th and get sharp prints, the bigger the print the more noticeable any shake will be, may I ask what you will do with your photographs, internet or large poster size prints for example?

@@thephotographersbag I've got 18x24" grade 3 paper and an Beseler 23c enlarger I inherited and would like to make larger enlargements in black and white, I've just been quartering those sheets and making prints from 35mm negatives from my black Pentax spotmatic. The easier resolution from flatbed scans is also nice. I do mostly landscape and object photography, but don't like to use a tripod unless it's specifically a night photo. I don't mind a heavy camera, I've lugged my 4x5 Busch pressman around before, but have no enlarger for that format, plus its more limited film choice.

@@mikafoxx2717 Hi, sorry I am not much help with regards to you Pentax query, mine is the earlier version but with MLU There were 4 versions in total 6x7 non MLU branded Asahi Pentax 6x7 with MLU branded Asahi Pentax There was a factory upgrade available at the time to add MLU to a non MLU body 67 branded Pentax in updated font 67ii branded Pentax in updated font The lenses can be told by the finish of the focus adjustment collar, the original lenses have it scalloped, the newer ones with a more modern rubber style covering A lot of users complain about the position of the MLU lever, it is easy to activate by mistake, and the only way to lower the mirror again is to fire the shutter, wasting a shot, I have experience of this and now put tape over the lever. As a user of the first gen model, I highly recommend them, the Mamiya RB/RZ series does have interchangeable film backs, the Pentax does not unfortunately... Would be interested in hearing how you get on in the future,😀
