Here I am watching 48 min of video about the camera I've been using for almost 30 years... I think you're actually an ASMR channel for nerds.

This is the camera that started me on my photographic journey many many years ago. Great camera which helped me learn photography.

I can count on one finger the number of K1000 shooters I’ve seen that shot it with something other than the 50mm kit lens. I’m often amazed at how many folks use these as a single lens camera. And while many promote it as a “student camera”, there are so so many other choices out there, not to mention, other lenses.

I had a few of these come through where the lens had corroded on to the lens mount. :D I always kind of thought the one I used to own was a rarity for having a ton of lenses used on it over the years.

Theft has been a big problem in my life with cameras. ( An endless battle to protect them ) . Very nice video. I have had this camera too. Thank you

Thank you! My sincere hope is that, even if I have other cameras stolen, it's just not waking up to someone in a hoodie in my living room.

Thank you for making this. The Pentax K1000 is one of my favourite film SLRs out there. It's simplicity makes it in my personal opinion a good film camera to learn using film with and I got some fantastic shots with it. It also just looks very nice with the silver and black body.

I never knew there was an SE model of the K1000. I may need to acquire another K1000 to mate up with my MESuperSE! Great video. Long Live Pentax. I am the original owner of Asahi Pentax K1000 S/N 6608264.

Sorry about your loss, I too have a ton of camera/computer stuff in my lil apartment. but then, this place is armed at every point of possible entry, and I get almost instantaneous notification, with the police to follow in minutes. Love this video, always was curious about this camera. Is this the Kmart special, or am I thinking of another. Cheers!
@DavidHancock

Thank you! I think the KMart special you're thinking of is either a Vivitar, Tower, or Maginon. The Maginon was the same camera as this with an LED-based light meter.

thank you so much for this amazing video. speaking of your book, I found your two independently published different copies on Amazon. one was published at 16th August wiht 42 pages and the other one was 19th august with 50 pages. I was wondering which one is the appropitate one. thanks in advance
@DavidHancock

Thank you! IIRC, the 50-page book is the correct one and the 42-page version is an old edition.

Correction; "...it means it can use any 35mm film..." (1:36 and 1:59) except 126 cartridge film which was discontinued but is still found in thrift stores and on the secondhand market. Sorry to be pedantic but technically there are two types of 35mm film: 126 & 135.
@DavidHancock

126 isn't 35mm film. 35mm film is actually called 135, that's the designation like 126 is it's own designation, as are 120, 127, and a boatload of others going back to 101, the first film format designation. 126 is the same with as 35mm, but that's where the similarity ends. 126 comes in a different holder and has a different perforation pattern. It was cut from the same feed stock, but it's not the same format as 35mm. 126 cameras are entirely different than 35mm cameras and 126 can't take 35mm film, again because they're different formats.

Feature-wise, spot-on. In terms of where it sits in the tiers of cameras, it's at the bottom of the K lineup, but the K lineup was a huge step up from the Spotmatics and the best Spotmatic (the F) had the same feature set as the lowest-tier K. The 70s and 80s were a wild time in terms of camera advancement.
