Yeah, you should lightly unscrew the cap a tiny bit then back on once you have the setting you want, so your not having to rethread it. The difference of how long these last is how easily people handle the loosening over completely unscrewing or not loosening it it to change settings

As the other guy said, if you force the lead indicator, it chips the plastic, you need to unscrew the top from the grip as is detailed in the video, it’s a shame that so many people have broken theirs this way.

Adding my 69 cents to the review and comparison to the Kuru Toga since I also own both of these. (But first, thanks for the review! I had no clue of the retracting function nor that these could be taken apart to change which lead hardness showed in the window, I had been forcing the label to rotate without taking it apart... whoops!) Lead breakage and clogging; I have not to this date encountered issues with those two things with any 4 sizes of this pencil. I use HB and B leads, so I can only speak for those. (Also colored HB leads in the 0.5.) Best Lead(s): I use both Pentel Hi-Polymer (HB and B), Faber-Castell Super-Polymer B lead (I prefer this 'B' over the Pentel as it feels softer) as well as Pentel Ain colored lead. With that said, I added the Ain ('Blue' specifically) as it's a great 'quality' lead in terms of feel and drawing; however, I do have to apply a good deal of pressure and find I can't use the eraser at the end of the pencil or a gum eraser. I have the best results erasing the blue with a rather generic Faber-Castell 'Dust-Free' eraser. (Not sure the type of erasers have a 'name' haha.) I'm currently waiting for my shipment of Pilot Color Eno Neox colored leads to come in tomorrow to test them against the Ain (which I was told was superior--we'll see!) Eraser: The eraser is such a highlight for me, I had to highlight it in my own 'review'. It feels very odd to say about an eraser but this is the only mechanical / 'drafting' type of pencil I've found myself using the eraser on. Even with force applied, it does not extend the pencil lead. The one downside I've found to the eraser is how to get it to stay 'up' after you've worn it down to the point that you need to extend it. (Actually, how I found this video, I was hoping you might cover that, but I did learn other things in lieu of that.) What I'm going to try is taking the eraser out completely from the metal that holds it, turning it around, and kind of 'grinding' the metal around it a little to try to get it to 'dig in' a bit before putting it back in. We'll see if that works... TL;DR - Out of everything with all 4 sizes of these mechanical pencils, the eraser and it staying extended after abusing one side of it, is my singular 'complaint'. If that's my only snag with these pencils, along with the unique features they have, I don't ever see myself needing or using any other pencils for drawing/sketching (until they come out with newer versions, haha). That includes the Kuru Toga pencils which I also have (old and new versions). Kuru Toga impression, personally: I was surprised you found that they worked well for you, so I wanted to give my own experience with them having used them for sketching purposes: I have both Kuru Togas (old steel rotating version and new plastic rotating version) and was unimpressed. The rotation mechanism needed too much pressure than the pressure applied when sketching. (I sketch very lightly, but also experimented with a more 'rough' style and continued to have the same problem.) Experimenting, I found the angle matters most for the rotating mechanism. I sketch from a 56 degree angle from the top; anything less than a 39-41 degree angle on the new Kuru Toga (plastic one) which I tested in the same way, will not rotate the lead. (I used Photoshop to get the exact degree, haha!) @Unsharpen if you or anyone has any advice on how to fix this, that'd be great. If not, I don't find them preferable over the Graph Gear 1000.
@LordVankisher
Жыл бұрын
@kai I have the kurutoga roulette and found the same issue. Need so much pressure than I use for sketching. So I take Apart all the mechanism and cut the spring. The spring that rotates the lead. It has on both ends three circles, cut two of this circles in both ends. The spring Need at least one circle on both ends to maintain its position, and this way the mechanism will Need less pressure and less degrees to rotate

I don't have any GraphGear pencils but I do have a couple of the Pentel EnerGize models which are based on the EnerGel pens. They have the retractable lead sleeve, so are pocketable and I can carry them at work. I recently bought the Pilot S20 pen and pencil and liked the pencil enough that I then got all five sizes of the S10 models. I have them in a horizontal stand next to my easy chair and can quickly choose between a 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.7 or 0.9. They are drafting pencils so are not pocket friendly unless you use a nerd pocket. These pencils are a nice change of pace from my fountain pen hobby; not having to worry about them drying up or needing cleaning is nice.

In Mexico City this pencil costs 20% more than in the USA! ($12 US Dollars!) because of the very high 16% sales tax and other charges, but since the minimun daily salary here is around $120 Pesos ($6 US Dollars), then for one person with that kind of salary it would take 2 hard days of work just to get to buy one "1000" pencil! and many people here have that salary! therefore you could see why the "1000" is considered a great luxory item here!
@GCG1956

Many people here have that salary, who do you mean? You cannot generalize, logically people with that salary, they do not need a pencil of this type, a cheap school pencil is enough in their work. The market for this pencil is focused on architects, drawing technicians, etc. with a much higher salary than you mention. I am a Chemist and I need it for a micro square in my carpentry hobby. I bought it for $ 287.84 Mexican pesos on Amazon and it just arrived, by the way it is wonderful. Greetings.

I'm not sure how a mechanical pencil works. I used it for the first time and pressing the tip of the pencil a little, it came back breaking the entire mechanical pencil

Unnecessarily heavy and uncomfortable, I've bought it nearly 10 years ago, used it a few times (to draw) and then put it aside. Not for me.

The window setting is for how much lead you want to come out at a time. Hb is the lowest as far as I see.

No. The windows is just a tag to remember wich hardness lead you put in. If you use various tipes of lead (h, hb, b, 2b). This tag is useful to know wich lead is inside the pencil.
