Ok I’ll be the first to be humble and admit , I used to hate Penuel , I used to think Uyafosta like Mzekezeke ..but after watching these interviews, I can see a real Leader and an example in you brother , you have a gift of listening to fully understand, and your vast knowledge on things to be able to engage in outta here ..how you keep calm and content in the presence of very rich kids , or very intelligent people , and how you are still able to find your space to talk , encourage , and introduce a different view to them , is really something to be applauded.. shout out to you my dawg , you have gained my respect .

Thank you gentlemen. I’ve been in tune with both your work. @SMWX since that Pr Zuma interview and Black Pen not sure which podcast but been following both because i identify with the way you both think and i’ve been patiently waiting for this episode so thank you. My dad is a from the old Transkei defence(before it was SANDF we know now) force and before 1994 he was sent with a scrambler bike to the villages to register peoples ages for IDs. The oldest person in the home would have to recall a memory of a war,a certain star or occasion they were born in to try and track how old they were, the grandmother would track back to when she had her first period to track her first born’s age. B Pen you spoke about surnames and their relevance or irrelevance and that is also something new as age is. As much as people will always be different, people will always be the same, you will never know somebody until you meet them(like former pres JZ). We are still living with a plague called colour. What we all need to realise is that whatever has been done to you, you cannot wear as a badge of shame, it is our responsibility to look at our lives, take responsibility for it then begin to change it ,and you gentlemen are on the right track. I cant wait to get my hands on Dr Mpofu Walsh’s book and i think i’ve read most of the books i’ve heard B Pen reference so i’ll leave you with a few of my fav you might or might not have read. 1.Prof Ngugi Wa Thiongo - Decolonising the mind 2.Peter Davis Darkest Holywood 3.James Baldwin The Fire Next time(also watch his debate with William F. Buckley) My mission vimeo.com/759868086

Yoh, Penuel -in praising the mother of Dr Sizwe, there was no need to throw the majority of Black African women under the bus! What on earth do you mean, "A lot of Black African women don't understand the significance of giving a child the father's last name"? When did you do this survey? Even if you named all the Black African women you know of -who reject the surnames of their lovers for their children -it still wouldn't constitute "a lot". I live in a patriarchal African country, Eswatini -where economic and emotional abandonment of children is the norm, among commoners and royals alike, rich and poor; this paternal abandonment is as common in our country as the automatic use of every Black child's paternal surname. Being relatives of the Zulu who constitute a large part of South Africa's population, it is my experience that this patriarchal privilege extends to the men of that tribe as well -there is a keenness on the part of the Black African mother's family to achieve marriage and a full sense of belonging for their daughter and grandchild, to the family of the in-laws. In fact, it is on account of this pursuit that the man's surname serves as social currency in Black African societies! I come from 3 generations of this combination of paternal abandonment and automatic use of the paternal surname, and I'm surrounded by this reality. Further, I only discovered as an adult why my mother couldn't raise me in my father's home -both my Black African mother and maternal grandmother kept his narcissistic abuse a secret from me, so that I could grow up respecting him. To now hear you speak so complacently and inaccurately about my social group -when neither you nor the interviewee have Black African mothers -is a very disturbing micro aggression! What gives?

My opinion is that as men we are the foundation of society. And so giving our children surnames gives them identity, that's why denying a child his or her surname has the potential to mess up his or her identity and can cause problems later for the child in adulthood, just my opinion kikiki.
