This is peony, “ Julia Rose” (Intersectional ‘Itoh’ Peony)
this is a really robust and easy to grow variety , not particularly fussy on whether it’s grown in full form or partial shade, ideally for the inexperienced grower it is also not particularly fussy if you mulch over it or plant it slightly deeper than it’s supposed to be
When it emerges from the ground in early spring it has the most enchanting deep peachy burnt orange colour which almost looks like a burning bush as the season marches it will flush and has deeply serrated and very attractive foliage
Reaching around 60 to 70 cm tall and around 70 to 100 cm wide blooms are produced usually individually and are semi double one made up of three rows of very delicately heart-shaped petals
Opening deep coral and slowly fading with a distinctive yellow apricot and even light lime green stripe down the centre of the flower which gives it very much a lotus look to the bloom
Coming into flower towards the end of it requires no staking and is more than capable of standing up on its own without support perfect for cutting it has a sweet pollen like fragrance
The flowers will open and close with the setting Sun and often track the light
this variety is available through many stockist, including @farmergracy
