I still remember the first time I saw this not long after the movie had been released. For me, it still stands as one of the best, funniest, surprising and all-round feel-good musical interludes in a movie, EVER! Even now, when I hear David Byrne sing this song, I still think of John Goodman and the Country Bachelors.

Don't worry, we Americans appreciate the glorious gift that is John Goodman. He is joy and happiness, a national treasure!! He is a sweet, gentle babe. He is a dreamboat in this wonderful movie. We're also glad that David Byrne calls this place home. He understands America in the 1980s better than anyone, and I wish for a True Stories II that's all about present-day cellphone tech, because it would be just as good and artistic as this movie is.

Something I noticed on my most recent rewatch is that, on the first two verses, he uses a falsetto voice to hit the high notes, but on the last verse, he sings normally. It's him slowly getting more and more confident in himself.

Considering Byrne wrote this song for him to sing that makes sense. Byrne really didn't want this to be a Talking Heads movie but Warner Bros insisted. He wrote the songs for the actors to sing and so wrote to their strengths as vocalists. I think Pop Staples was the only professional musician in the cast besides Byrne. The Talking Heads album came later. The fact that Byrne got a gospel singer to sing a voodoo song is mind blowing. Edit; and I'm just realizing I'm replying to an eleven year old comment! 😆

I recall John (Means brave warrior) and Goodman which gives it self, once said something like from an interview I saw on the TV many years ago in my childhood not literally remembering because of it being maybe in the process of a time lapse (haha): "The worst than can happen to a man is fame". Basicly. Praise John Goodman who I am sure has the true talent and intelligence to carry his fame, which is in its truth one of the top US-actors IMO. "Enjoying my coffee"! A personal and utterly sincere thank to this man. Jeppe, Denmark
