I enjoyed the book, but the fight that ruined their friendship for two years was so underwhelming once you learn what actually happened. that’s what brought the rating down for me. definitely not a fan of the miscommunication trope.

RIght now I am reading a book called The Roughest Draft and I am worried there is going to be the same issue. The book is about two writers who wrote two books together, one of which becomes extremely popular. Something happens and they stop writing together, one of the two even stops writing altogether. I’m liking the book so far, but I am thinking, please let this not be the same as People we meet on vacation with the whole miscommunication thing.

This is the only book I really couldn’t keep on reading… reallly forced myself to read the first 50 pages ..I have never ever DNFed a book … and i read 30-50 books a year … poppy was so so annoying… I can’t believe it was rated that high on Goodreads

Same here! I have no idea why it was rated best romance novel of 2021 on goodreads! I read Beach Read and I liked it better.

@@ashleyarden3530 found your video since I was looking for spoilers and actually wanted to know what happened two years ago that made Poppy n Alex go separate ways 😂 Thank God I found your video… I had read Verity before this n comparing the two, PWMOV seemed even more bland

@@sarahkhan7056what are the odds! I also could not get through the book and DNF-ed it, so was looking for a spoiler filled review. And the last book I read was also Verity and I was trying to compare it with PWMOV. Didn’t like either of these but PWMOV was definitely way more dull.

I did not like People we meet on vacation. There was no tension. There was no reason why they didn’t make the transition from friends to lovers sooner - absolutely nothing keeping them apart (idea: Poppy’s family somehow involved in his mothers death?).. it was so obvious they loooved each other. The Croatia reveal was so dull. A kiss, really? So many people really like this book. 🤷🏻♀️

For 12 years that they basically loved each other but they didn’t date? Like there’s obviously something wrong with communication yk? I didn’t feel enough for their relationship it’s just that I love their humor that’s all

This book was way too long for a modern day romance. It’s a 10 hr read when it should’ve been 7 hrs! Story just dragged on

I felt like I got cheated when I read this book. It was such a letdown. All they needed was one mature conversation like you said. Maybe it would've been better if they figured out how to be happy without each other BEFORE getting back together, especially Poppy. I wanted to see her become satisfied with her own life and career first. Because that's a whole different problem she tried to fix by reconnecting with Alex. Maybe that's why everything felt wrong to me. P.S. I found your vid because I was looking for this kind of review. Everybody seems to like it. WHY?!

Yep, completely agree! Also the current summer chapters were so uncomfortable because the author keeps mentioning how hot the temperature is. Eveytime they kissed or touched all I could think of was sweat and sticky skin. How the hell was this chosen for best romance?!

I was so underwhelmed to learn what happened in Croatia. The only thing that I really really loved about this book was the banter but other than that I’m so confused on what everyone liked about it. I love the author but this book just fell short for me and was way too overhyped.

I heard the first 35 minutes of the audiobook version. It doesn't maintain my attention, hence, I said heard and not listened. I kept finding myself in a daydream. To be fair, I was exercising at the same time, so I was counting reps and lost track of the story. However, nothing pulled me back in. At this point, I've been exposed to too many real life drug stories and it kind of triggers me to think about, so I am good without it. Not that that wouldn't add another dynamic. As far as diversity, I am fine with it as is, as to me, from the right perspective, vanilla people can be just as interesting as non-vanilla. The tension I'd like to hear about are peoples' inner voice stuggles that conflict with cultural norms. You could write a sex scene and it only be in the person's head. In general, people experience more in their heads than in the real world. We think one thing and yet we do another. We fantasize about someone we've met, we create internal arguments with people that never plays out and yet we internalize the emotional effects and it too creates tension between us. Thanks for the review.

Thank you for the comment. I have a really hard time with audiobooks for that reason. My mind often wanders and I loose track of the story. You're right that vanilla can be written in a more interesting way! I haven't read a book that has a sex scene that is only in the person's head, unless it is a dream the character has followed by the character being confused or ashamed by it. I did read "Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine", which had a lot of main character inner monologue and was "vanilla but interesting", and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
