We have managed to swing Christmas round. Advent was at one time, regarded as a sort of mini-Lent. A period of fasting and abstinence - and no carols. This was followed by Christmastide - Christmas day being the first day and a celebration. However, the whole of Christmastide was a festive season. Now the festivities start on December 1st with office parties and work Christmas meals and none stop carols on radio and in the supermarkets, mixed of course with the usual Christmas pop music. It culminates on Christmas day with Boxing day being the final bit. You won't hear a carol after Boxing Day unless you go to a church, and on January 2nd its back to the grind.

@@zmalevo2126 I don't see why, both have very little to do with religious festivals these days, they have become cultural and commercial events. In any case, Christmas only exists as it does because of Roman attempts to merge Paganism and Christianity by transposing a Christian ceremony onto the days following the Pagan celebrations for the Winter Solstice, so it could actually be argued that celebrating a Pagan-origin festival like Halloween is actually very much in the true spirit of the original Christmas.

I am ALL ABOUT Christmas. Love it. Go all out on the decorations, the music, the food, the hats and sweaters, the visits to Christmas villages and Carolers. I always watch A Charlie Brown Christmas, read, yes read "A Christmas Carol" and twice have read to others the shortened version Dickens used in performance. We throw a big party the day after Thanksgiving to decorate the tree and I make personalized gift ornaments for people to put on our tree. But I literally say almost all of the stuff in this video. I never listen to that Mariah Carey song. I DO listen to that misanthropic Miles Davis song a lot. I don't believe in buying expensive gifts for kids that they'll take for granted. I don't believe in God and view the nativity story as a fable (I'm not a pagan, but I love Halloween). I hate the commercialization of Christmas. I do get depressed during the season for a bit and think about the misery of the world. I hate "Do They Know It's Christmas?" with a passion, but donate to the poor. I'm not above Christmas, I'm just judgey of others. I feel like I'm the Scrooge or the Grinch at the end of the story, loving Christmas and my fellow man, but still the same character deep down.

GIRL! I know the pain! I was the lead option to play Snow White when I was a kid in a play and they ended up picking another girl because she had darker hair and mine was red. I would have worn a wig. I ended up being an elf! Still salty. 36 yrs old...still salty
