Peppers come in so many sizes, shapes, colors, and heat levels! We grow many different varieties for our spring plant sale each year and we have a big backyard garden too. We eat them fresh and also prepare them in so many ways. We freeze-dry, smoke, dehydrate, freeze, pickle, and powder them to turn them into so many delicious things. This is our 2024 list of peppers we are growing this year from the smallest sweetest mini bells to some of the hottest peppers to grow. We love peppers of culinary interest from all over the world!
One of my goals this year is to make my own dried chiles and hot sauces so we have a bunch of my favorite Mexican flavors represented. chilaca/pasilla, chile de arbol, poblano/Ancho, guajillo/mirasol. We make cayenne pepper powder and smoked paprika. Aji Rico makes a great smoked powder and yellow cayenne pepper in fun! We're trying some new flavors to us on recommendations from others. This year we are trying Jimmy Nardello, a black Hungarian, Ausilio thin thin-skinned Italian, and Aji Mojo and Aji Amarillo.
I love the variety of heat in peppers. We grow heatless habanero and jalapeno varieties, medium hot and very hot varieties as well. So many varieties have a good history behind them of culinary uses all over the world! Check out what we love and leave a suggestion of something you love to grow or eat too!
