I was JUST sitting here talking with my 90 year old dad about he used to go to the movies and spend a whole afternoon at the theater for a dime. A nickel for the movies and a nickel for either a candy bar and popcorn or a Pepsi. He said he remembered the song and sang me the first one on this video. I love hearing my dads stories! His eyes lit up when I found this video!

I work for Pepsi, I'm a vendor. An old man saw me, noticed my Pepsi hat and sang the tune. He said, "Have you ever heard that before?" "Its from the 30s, way before Television." So here I am. This is awesome.

My father used to do the same, when I was a little Feller! Back in the 80's, was out salmon fishing with my father-in-law, and we brought his father out fishing with us too. I opened the cooler, pulled out an ice cold Pepsi and took a few chugs. Then I sang that Pepsi jingle to the old Feller! The look on his face was just priceless!!😊

Sometimes I wonder how people got by when you couldnt price anything below one fifth of a soda because that was the smallest coin.. Surely if you went back even further, into like the 1900s, a drink wouldve been a damn cent.. at which point how much is a piece of candy? cant be a penny too or that'd be ludicrously expensive.
@katcrafty
8 жыл бұрын
In the year 1900, Coca-Cola was priced at 5 cents.
@KairuHakubi
8 жыл бұрын
Kathryn VanSlambrouck yes but that was half as much to a bottle. also that seems odd, the price stayed the same for that long? it must have seemed a lot more expensive back then IN ANY CASE though what I was saying is.. back when 5 cents bought a soda, it must have been hard having a penny as the lowest possible unit of cost. Like imagine if nothing could be priced below 50 cents. you'd have trouble buying stamps, individual pieces of candy, individual fruit..
@katcrafty
8 жыл бұрын
+Kairu Hakubi Well there was such a thing as a half cent coin that remained in circulation in the United States until 1957. But yes, I see your point. I'm not an expert in the history of inflation, but if you google a graph, you can see that inflation rates swung widely from the positive to the negative range up until around 1900. So something priced at 15 cents in say, 1860, may have been only 5 cents five years later in 1865.

I must be the only human being in the world who prefers Pepsi... And yet, I am the customer with the least brand loyalty ever. Whenever I'm eating with friends or family, I'll always ask for Coke. I know if ask for Pepsi, people are gonna look at me like I'm some alien. Actually, even the waiters look at me weird, and most times they don't even have it. Like, seriously, the "is Pepsi okay?" joke needs to stop. Try asking for Pepsi next time you're at a restaurant, they *never* have it. They'll straight up look at you like you're Tom Hanks in The Terminal (2004) and go, "uh... is Coke okay, sir?" with the disconcerted look of someone who's been transported to a bizarre, mirror version of their world. Honestly, it's gotten better now that I'm an adult and can afford to buy Pepsi for myself, but it was very awful when I was a kid. It was almost like it wasn't socially acceptable to like Pepsi. I mean, I wasn't bullied or anything - we're talking about soda preference here - but it was still very inconvenient. Back then, I must have had a cup of Pepsi once every 3 and a half years, on the occasion they ran out of Coke. Birthday parties, fast food joints, and even my own home, had Coca-Cola, and only Coca-Cola. You know you've completely cornered the market when people laugh at the mere idea of having to consume your competitor's product.
