Great to see different methods of fishing. My Dad had me out trout fishing at 2 years old in the mountains of WV. (Que- Take me home, country roads) So that makes it 49 years of experience fishing. Atlantic ocean, gulf of Mexico, off the tip of the Florida keys,,Arkansas,, then north to Maine and NW to South Dakota. The rocky mountains of Colorado. Then even further north into Canada. It has been 5 years now since Dad passed with cancer. I take my two boys fishing as much as possible. (11 & 13 Years old) They have caught the fishing bug for sure. You guys have a special bond that very closely parallels my father's and my relationship. I did not truly know or grasp how special that bond was. It was. There was no other way known to me because the outdoors fishing, hunting, camping and planning the next grand adventure is what we did 100% of the time! Tell each other you love them. Try and grasp how special that bond is. Then go and catch the biggest fish to have braggin rights until a bigger one comes along! Thank you guys for reminding me!

just love watching all their videos, even though i dont fish for all the fish the videos are always amusing, especially with his wee funny quips, he makes them all interesting and a lot of the gear he uses is not right up to date or really expensive and shows you how to do things cheaper and to save money, not like some videos where all they are interested in is bumming up some gear that costs a fortune, also just started watching the outdoor videos as well, again interesting and informative. G is especially funny out on the boat by himself when he stars talking to his imaginary friend who never seems to help him lol.

magical fishing around the bridge there..I sometimes think that still waters that are too overgrown by trees produce less fish..don't know why really. great tactical advice as usual..thanks. don't knock the ivy too much . great winter resource for our wildlife..

The trees block the wind which means less oxygen being blown into the water/less anomia being blown off the water. Plus the shading from the trees inhibits plant/algal growth which equals a less productive water/fishery.

Love your videos... One theory for split trees is; Firstly your possibly walking through unmanaged woodlands so there is no one to take the rest of the tree out or limb. Second is (and its a big problem up-river on the Thames) are all the funding cut backs (no pun intended) to manage the trees at risk or already on a heavy lean. But yes it was a very dry summer and limb drop would be more common, as the tree is transpiring faster then the roots can draw it up, even if its sat on a river bed... Multistem Willow trees will split naturally after a number of years.
@TAFishing
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the interesting comment .I actually had a huge limb come down on my own property during the last snowfall and I filmed inside where it split as there was some sort of resin/disease...film in the pipeline so maybe someone can enlarge on it. We have a couple of willows and seem to have more small stem "sheds" this year than we have known before.

Surprising that Mr. P admires Ivy. It's the vulture of plants. Feeds on the nearly dead and thrives. An absolute nightmare for brickies as the tendril roots can easily bury into mortar and cement. Damn near impossible to get rid of once its there. You can clear the ground, rake it, propagate, change the soils at great cost. Even salt the earth! The Ivy always comes back.

The trees have split because they have endured a drought where they have shrunk, followed by heavy rain that has made bloat and swell. That causes them to split, and then fungus and other disease moves in. Once they start to die off, the root system stops taking in as much water and the canopy thins out, allowing an explosion of growth in the weeds and ivy.

Hi Graeme, just hit subscribe, there's loads of fishing posted on here, I'm narrowing them down from quantity to quality. You are the latter. That bracket fungus is rife in oaks & beech. Unfortunately brackets appear after the damage is done, the mycelium turns the core of a tree into a sponge eating it inside to out. I'd love to get in there with a bill hook & chainsaw, clear the swims out. Was that the Basingstoke canal??? Anyway, thanks for putting out there.

greame,the ivy is due to no traditional methods of forest management,those trees no doubt were ,in times past,harvested for tree hay aka foliage for animals in the winter and the stump would be ready to crop again in a matter of a year or two,a type of coppicing ,why do they split? well i have the idea that hot dry spells weaken the fibres the wood is made from,i believe the country name for that sort of willow is 'crack willow' for this very reason.
