Imagine you're given the chance to compose a piece of music for....solo snare drum. What do you do? How do you go about it? The last 100 years have seen an explosion in the amount of music written where Percussion is the star of the show - solo pieces for multiple percussion instruments, concertos, duos, quartets and percussion ensembles. In this video I look at the influences that led to this rise in percussion compositions, and talk to percussionist/composer Gene Koshinski about how to write a piece with no pitches and also how to notate it!
