Percy Priest is my home lake and I have a Love/Hate relationship with it. It can be great one day and terrible the next. Being able to adjust to day to day changes in the weather as well as fish behavior has been key to staying around bass. It's hard to break the habit of fishing your "favorite" spots, especially on your home lake. I'm trying to be better about this and the results speak for themselves.
With the fall transition beginning, being able to junk fish your way through the day can be a key method of keeping a tight line. Sometimes trying to build a specific pattern based on lure type can actually prevent you from being as successful as possible.
If the fishing seems tough, slowing down your bait presentation isn't always your best bet. I've found that speed kills and utilizing moving baits, especially crankbaits, allows you cover a lot more water while also finding active fish that want to feed much quicker.
The Lucky Craft Lipless baits are quickly becoming my favorite brand. The LV 500 3/4ounce and the LV250 1/2 Ounce are becoming staple baits for me. The Spro 65 Frog in Killer Gill & Heddon Lure Spook with a Chartreuse Bottom are great as well. It's hard to beat the evening topwater frenzies that are part of the fall transition.
Tight Lines until next time!
