Having really enjoyed the GCR's Winter Gala I'd been looking forward to the Autumn Gala for some time and it certainly didn't disappoint. Despite there being only one visitor, GWR 78XX 7828 Odney Manor, the day was excellent, with perfect weather and spirited performances.
Starting at Loughborough, we see GWR 6959 6990 Witherslack Hall coming off shed. I then rode behind the Modified Hall, bagging a front window, to Quorn & Woodhouse, from where 6990 makes a noisy departure. With this being the loco's first duty of the day and it being a cold morning, the cylinder drains were left open for a long time leaving Loughborough.
Moving to an overbridge just north of Quorn, Standard 5MT 73156 canters along with a Leicester North service.
I then rode behind 7828 to Leicester North. Everything was going well until we approached Rothley when it became clear that there had been a signalling issue and we had to wait for several minutes before passing a signal at danger. Similarly, for the departure to Leicester, we cautiously passed a few red signals before the regulator was put in the roof and the Manor gave me possibly my loudest ever run behind a steam loco.
I travelled back to Loughborough behind 73156 (a separate video will be uploaded covering all of my runs behind the 5MT) and then found a few spots at the lineside to see firstly LMS 8F 48305 with its only passenger working of the day, followed by 73156.
