I've watched a bunch of haircutting videos on YT and appreciate your videos being straight-forward! Super easy to follow along. I'll watch them again as a refresher and can say that I've successfully cut my bf's hair! On the 5th time now and it gets easier/better. For everyone who is trying for the first time, go in with CONFIDENCE! If you are unsure, then for sure the haircut will be s*****. If you're having a bad day/bad mood, don't cut your own/bf's/dad/brothers/friend's hair. Secondly, TAKE YOUR TIME. If you need to, just cut off a little bit and take a step back to see how it's looking before cutting more. As you practice further along, it gets more intuitive. Good luck!

Just a personal tip for beginners: start with fading lower than what's shown in this video. To do that make sure that the first line you make(0:00 - 1:10) is placed a few centimeter lower. I say this because beginners often try to fade too late.

Yes there's different techniques, to each is their own....But as long as the end result is a fade n the dude is happy with it, that's all that matters!!! A fade is a fade whether I use scissors or watever n u don't use scissors or watever, but in the end we both gave the same exact razor fade with a 2 on top regardless of wat clippers or guards were used or wat step/steps were taken first, I make my line first, n u use a 3 all around first or watever, none of that doesn't matter as long as the result is the proper cut!!! Thank you so much for "dumbing this down". Clippers were never my strongest skill when doing hair back in the day. However, now with Covid-19 and hubby recovering from it, we are very hesitant to go to the barbers. So, the husband says, "you went to school and got your license for hair, you cut it." I said, Surrrre, I can do it, if you don't mind going bald. LOL! He's a vet and is used to "high and tight", so as a good wifey, I said I do it. I was never good with "fading", but with your tutorial, it came out pretty good. His right side had a little line, but gently going over it a few times, it "faded" in. SO THANK YOU! I did accidently "buzz" of the top shorter (@#3) than he wanted- trim off 1/2 inch off the top. He was cool with it and said he loved it. He's looking like a "new recruit" now. HAHA! Thank Again!

TIP FOR EVERYONE IN THE COMMENTS: Never follow the round of the head with the clippers because you're gonna end up making their head look extra round. In the middle of the back of the head you see how his bone is popping out and then above that it curves inward / , the clippers shouldn't touch the scalp directly. From bottom to top the clippers should go like this \( like once it reaches the middle and the rounding of the head dont worry if you feel like youre not cutting anything. Clippers must go in a straight line thats why it shouldnt be touching the top half. Once youre reaching the end with the clipper make sure you flick your wrist toward you, to taper it off. Imagine an airplane. When it takes off it goes in a straight line then scoops upward slowly as it goes up in the sky. Thats how the clipper movement should look like too. The reason being that at the top of the half of the head men have that little swirly. If you follow the round of the head you'll end up cutting the hairs around the swirl too short which will cause them to be sticking out. By going in a straight line with the flat part of the clippers you will avoid cutting any length up there that will otherwise fuck up the haircut. If you have someone with a flat head then you want to be careful because they wont have the bone sticking out to guide your clippers off the head when it's time. In situations like that, be extra cautious to try to make their head LOOK round with the haircut. So cut the hair in a way that it will mimick a round head. I would say do the same technique just make sure when you reach the middle of the back of the head you go in a straight lime same thing \( it will look like this \| (the right is the flat head) you see how it will leave more hair behind leaving you more room to tweak the haircut to make their head look round. Also, START BIG DONT QUICKLY TAKE A 1 GUARD AND CHOP HAIR. Start with a 3 or 4. Leave yourself room to fix the haircut. If u go with a 1 right away u cant really fix it because theyre almost practically bald (I'm a cosmetologist) If anyone has any questions lmk I gotchu

Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise and experience with us. Your post was very informative (and is very underrated). It's been very helpful to me in understanding the important basics. I was just wondering if you could expand on this a little further with some tips & tricks that you may have for the top half of the head, if you have the time. I would really appreciate it. Thanks again! Btw, it's always nice to see a person ignore somebody's *terrible* attempt at trolling. Definitely shows your professionalism, tbh. (Personally, I'm going to have a little fun with this guy lol.) I also really liked your clever use of symbols as help to further visualize your already descriptive instructions ( "\(" & "\|" ). Tbh, it would be nice if the uploader would pin your comment so more can see it, as it works perfectly alongside his video and supplements it very well. Just the small tip telling people to start longer by itself would likely be appreciated by a great many who otherwise would have messed up on their first attempt, which is normal with anything (I've definitely done it). Plus, it gives you more practice out of one haircut lol. If you made your own instructional videos, I think they would be very successful and educational based upon your example of successfully teaching something solely through text. Which can definitely be a challenge, especially when the thing your teaching is best learned through visuals alongside the instruction & hands on time, such as cutting hair. Just saying, lol. Anyway, sorry for the long comment. You took the time out of your day a year ago to type out your professional experience in very educational and clever way, and I think your post is underrated and deserving of more praise. So I just thought it would be a good idea to return the favor by giving you a little time out of my own day to show a little extra appreciation lol. Hope all is well and I look forward to hearing some more advice if you have the time!

@@craigchard1127 It was 5 minutes that helped me a lot actually. Although it was only a 5 min read, the OP likely spent more than 5 minutes of their day to share their experience. It's obviously for beginners, but the basics are always most important. We're not all experienced or professionals...which leads me to this question: If reading this was just a waste of time and you know this stuff, why did you keep reading? Better yet, why even watch this video? Something makes me doubt that it's because you're a professional who watched out of appreciation for the craft and was even willing to take the time out of your day to expand upon the video in a comment because of that appreciation and to be helpful to others, like OP did. I think you're just upset that you messed up your first attempt at a fade up because you started with a 1 or something. I did the same, it happens to the best of us. So there's no reason to be upset, bro. ...Plus, I'm sure it grew back just fine 😂. Especially by now...hopefully. Anyway, if you actually read this... Now, *THAT'S* a waste of your life 😂. For real though, I'm just messing around. I hope you have a good rest of your day!

That was really very satisfying to watch. The way you explained the blend of 1 and 3 by using a 2 is the missing piece I needed. Can’t wait to give this one a try. I’m merely watching this to clip my own hair. Getting your haircut done in a shop is just too expensive these days.
@raeven1200

If you get half sizes it's even better to blend..for example to blend a 1 to 2 use a 1.5. I recommend Oster classic 76's clippers with the metal blades. They are pricey but cut so much better and last a lifetime!!
