I met Bronson in 2011 in Hershey Pennsylvania and as an impersonator I had studied Balki's voice for over 10 years and my fiancee told Bronson that I did a great impression of Balki and he wanted to hear it and I said "Oh no no I'm not prepared! I'm so starstruck!" Bronson insisted and it became obvious I wasn't going to be able to escape this so my fiancee said "You know you can do Balki!" So I said... "Well Of Course I Can Don't Be Ridiculous!" And Bronson's eyes lit up and he points directly at me and says "That Is By Far One Of The Best Balki Impressions I've Ever Heard!!!!" I replied "Oh Go On With You!!!!" He was absolutely blown away! A moment I will never forget!!!!!!

Great to see them together again--they clearly still enjoy one another's company which is very nice! THE greatest comedy duo of my generation. Right up there with Abbott & Costello and Gleason & Carney IMHO. Aside from a few Reagan jokes, Perfect Strangers is timeless comedy that has aged well and that is still funny. My son and I have watched it together his entire laugh. We laugh just as hard at the bits today as we did the first time we saw them which is the mark of truly great comedy--funny every time you see it!

Watching again as an adult, I have so much respect and appreciation for MLB. He was the true star and anchor of the show. MLB and the producer had such difficulties behind the scenes with reeling in such a big personality like Pinchot. With the sheer number of times MLB had to apologize in this 30 min Q + A, you can imagine what he had to deal with over the course of the Perfect Strangers run. So thank you MLB!

So glad to see Mr. Baker doing well. I've seen Mr. Pinchot throughout the years in interviews and if I recall correctly, even on reality tv. But Perfect Strangers was something I watched as a kid, and I swear you only focus on Balky because as a kid, you focus on physical comedy, the crazy accent, and Balky's twisting of idioms and sayings. Its all hilarious. And now I'm watching it as an adult, and LARRY is my favorite character. As a kid, I saw Larry as an old man- a bore. And now watching the series again, you realize Larry is only 24 years old lmao!!!! And as a single guy, I relate to him on all these weird levels. I know it may sound weird because this was your run of the mill sitcom formula, but the unsaid is what resonates with the Larry Appleton character. Larry grew up with siblings and never felt that anything belonged to just him. And that is why he is such a control freak about his apartment and personal space. And I feel that shit in my soul haha!!! And watching him like things that normal guys like, like women- but he isn't the most suave guy in the world. But he WANTS to teach Balky the American ways. So he's just like this REALLY good person who means well but sometimes gets encumbered by his own anxieties and hang ups. You can't write a more real character than that. And now in adulthood, I realize that Mark Linn-Baker was just as funny at physical comedy as Bronson Pinchot. His expressions are priceless when he's fed up with Balky, and they always get into these little 3-Stooges-like slap fights 😂😂 I had totally forgot that Balky and Larry slapped each other around all the time. Here are some facts about the show for anyone interested that I have learned throughout the years: Balky was originally named Vev. Bronson Pinchot suggested Balky because his sister had a dog named Balcony, and the family nicknamed him Balky. Louie Anderson was originally cast to play "Lou Appleton", not "Larry". A pilot was even filmed. So that exists out there somewhere on earth. But then they decided to go with Mark Linn-Baker as "Larry". Also, the name "Larry Appleton" was created after Lawrence University in Appleton Wisconsin- Wisconsin being Larry's home state in the show.
@PumkinPeanut

Balki was named after his sister's dog? Source? (nice trivia btw) I agree its such a believable script at times while others are wild and crazy. They were both so talented I never could decide who was the better actor. We waited forever for it to be available on dvd.

OMG!! A Perfect strangers panel?!?!?1 I'm getting some halkie deecees (stay away for plad and dairy or you'll wish you were dead and don't give it to airline stewedesses named Jennifer & Maryann) and bibee babcas (you've got to do the didi) to watch this. No pig snout with saffron. My favorite show since I was 10 when I first watched it. I'm now 40 and I still watch this show once a year. So much of their characters were part of my personality and I didn't notice until I started rewatching the show in my 20s. It brought a smile to my heart when I saw them do the dance of joy one more time in the TGIF training of Fresh Off The Boat. If there's a continuation I'd watch it in a heartbeat. A reboot I would never watch because they did it right the first time. I was so happy they released the series on dvd but it would have been great if they had features like commentaries from the stars and deleted scenes.

Also, one of the absolute GREATEST examples of these two men shining in physical comedy is in season 2, episode 6: "Babes in Babylon", where they win a trip to Las Vegas. After trying to convince Balky that gambling is addictive and can leave you broke, Larry gets hooked on gambling and Balky tries to save him. This leads them on a chase where Larry is chasing Balky all over a hotel room over some poker chips. But its a funny and brilliant showcase of how these two fed off each other's energy while Larry is basically playing a maniac.

From IMDB: Balki Bartokomous : We can't bump the bibi-babka ditty, it's part and parcel of the point-by-point process of baking bibi-babkas! Larry Appleton : I understand it's part and parcel of the point-by-point process of baking bibi-babkas, Balki, buddy, but... we gotta cut some corners. We're talking mass production here. That Honeymooners anecdote is hilarious. I believe it though... they were just THAT good. I even saw it from the beginning of the show (never missed a minute) and still wasn't sure who it was lol I thought they dubbed in a part of the original Honeymooners show. My entire family looked forward to the night Balki was on (apologies to Larry but we called the show Balki in my family even though we all considered Larry as equally talented) and we also taped it on vcr each week. Of course I was already on the couch waiting for the show to start but as soon as the song started playing if anyone wasn't already in the living room they would all be there by the time the song ended. This mini reunion was really nice to watch and I'm glad to see they are both looking good. The catchy laughter was such a treat, I found myself laughing for no reason at all even though I didn't get the joke some of the time. What a lovely connection. Partway through the video however my mind started to wander and I kept expecting the young Jennifer to enter the stage (remembering that brilliant episode where Larry dreamed of losing Jennifer forever and growing old while she remained young) especially since the hair is aging a bit here. (No mustache for Balki yet, I guess!) Those girls were brilliant too and everyone complimented each other so perfectly. Talking about your dad watching a movie 5 times in order to learn the language.. my (teen) son was just searching for Perfect Strangers in Spanish (hoping it would help him in the same way.) We can't find it yet. Maybe its out there somewhere. We watch the shows together on dvd like I did with my family when it aired weekly. (had to tell him how I would need to wait an entire WEEK to watch the next episode... some of them were TO BE CONTINUED and he has no clue what that was like!) My son & I like Mr Gorpley too.. he's like the nasty old Grinch that you love to hate but deep down he's not so bad after all. The talent of Balki & Larry is through the roof. We just watched the jail episode (Pros & Cons) where they are singing, such amazing harmony, unbelievably gifted in every way. I want to thank every single actor and actress that ever played on this show and anyone and everyone who helped make this show possible! You are all loved and appreciated and may God bless you and your families with good health and long life.. I ask this in Jesus' name.

I mean Balki was more upset when Larry went into his pleasure chest then he was when Larry messed up his filming. And when Larry went back on his diet Balki didn't seem too upset about that. Oh my god when Larry tore apart Balki's room looking for that map Balki didn't do anything to him he could have smacked him with something but he didn't punish him. Like I said he was more upset when Larry went into his pleasure chest because he grabbed him by his ear. When they were on jury duty it would have been funny to actually see Larry put Balki in the corner because Balki said he did.
