3min??? Our protocol is 2.5min If that hose whipped around as the EO drove off it could’ve taken their legs

Why is the hydrant fire fighter wearing an scba mask? It is difficult, and unsafe to exit an apparatus in traffic with your field of vision decreased by a mask that is fogged up...

he has a reed hood and that requires you to mask up first

Errors: 1) Didn't wrap the hose around the hydrant before signaling; he could have easily been snared. 2) Didn't let the pressure stabilize. 3) His mask is on, it's pretty standard for the guy/gal catching the hydrant not to have their mask on so they can communicate easier. This is pretty situational, though: If they were close enough to the fire it would be preferred that they have their mask on.

1. Don't wrap hydrant or it can pull it out. That is a complete rookie move. 2. is done at the pump. 3. It is HFD protocol for the mask.

You don't wrap a hose around the hydrant. If that hose catches that hydrant you potentially lose not only your closest water supply, but the water supply on that entire feeder.

Whatever he did may be Houston’s protocol or standard procedure. Most people have seen it looped around and folded back on top, or have a Velcro strap tightened around the hose that enables you to just throw the loop of the strap over the hydrant. Either way, do how you were taught by your department. Pretty straight forward
