That was a three part documentary made by the BBC made about 2009. The Perfumers organ he’s talking about is over 100 years old and the perfumer in that room was Thierry Wasser and it was a Shalimar variation.

As someone who has watched that doc a thousand times it’s funny to hear Aaron conflating several scenes together from memory😂. The making of Tommy Loud…Jacques Guerlain’s organ museum…and the making of Shalimar in the factory. I would love an updated one just as in depth or longer with the frag community on KZitem involved.

The documentary features a young Quentin Bisch in perfume school, which is such a treat! He stated his dream was to walk down the street and smell a fragrance he created on a woman. ☺ Dream achieved. As for Santal Royal, I Love your chemist/perfumer take on fragrances. I learn so much from you. As a woman, Santal Royal is my sexy, mysterious scent I wear at night when feeling a little vampy. Little black dress, leather jacket, a smoky eye. It's a mood.

I’ve been waiting for this review and I knew you’re gonna love it 😄 we live in Iran and my aunt brought this for us years ago when she came back from Austria. Ofc for us with our horrible economy perfumes are extra expensive and unreachable. But since this smells sooooooo expensive and lovely my mom immediately thought it’s like 500 dollars and locked it away lol. I finally convinced her to let me at least try it once and yes it’s my favorite oudy woody perfume ever. She went back to hiding it tho.

I love Santal Royal. It's the only Guerlain perfume of which I own a full bottle. Got it for under $120 a few years ago, and it was a great buy for that price. The cinnamon really shines through on my skin once the opening begins to fade.

This one grew on me and became one of my all time fav! Seems quite simple at first sniff but it's quite intricate and full of nuances, all perfectly balanced. An interesting fact: If you spray it on a paper strip, smell it, then put it away and breath again it gives an 'aftertaste', quite dry and scratchy. I believe it's some amber or sandalwood material dosed quite high.

Excellent review as always. 👌I have a bottle of this and bought it blind in the pandemic period. I was disappointed because the rose was too synthetic and harsh and I missed that creamyness in the sandalwood. But it developed well in the bottle and it's growing on me. I read on the Fragrantica the latest formulation is less strong. My version is very strong and long lasting. I like Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud more. It's in my opinion more elegant and the performance is great. It definitely has a similarity with the Guerlain. Greetings from Holland.🌹

Love Santal Royal, it is the one made me buy the entire collection. I'm wondering if they have reformulated it as one thing I've never thought is that it needs to be stronger! It's a beast and one spray is usually more than enough for anyone. Please review Cuir Intense it is the next best in the line IMO! Some of them are a little too unisex towards feminine for me but Santal Royal, Cuir Intense and Oud Essentiel are incredible.

I find it odd that Middle Eastern scents, such as this one, are not recommended during summer months......meanwhile, the Middle East remains one of the hottest regions on the planet...😂😂😂 The"winter" season to wear all of the so-called "winter fragrances" barely exists there. They BLAST strong oud-based fragrances all year long with no 2nd thought. Maybe we should follow suit by strengthening and improving our sense of smell and its versatility. 🤷🏾♂️😂

Perfume is a funny industry. The real artists are hidden behind the curtain so to speak. Then some fool from marketing, or even worse a celebrity, tells the artist what to do. Then they claim to have “made” a perfume lol. Like, get over yourself. More perfumers need to branch out on their own like you. There is a funny video put out by Frederic Malle (who I appreciate for putting the perfumers name on the bottle). Frederic Malle says he is a “perfume publisher”. Maurice Roucel give a bottle of Musc Ravageur to Frederic Malle saying “this is the best thing I’ve ever made and if you’re true to your word a perfume bearing my name will be this and nothing else” Frederic Malle then dead-eyes him and says “it needs top notes” 😂 And that my friends is the business of perfume not to be confused with the art of perfume. Got to make sure the boss thinks he is important kzitem.info/news/bejne/ynylsq5qmqJ5mIIsi=TzDlHw0s6Xf4D3-8
