Persimmon was an underground nuclear test performed as part of Operation Latchkey. Fired at the Nevada Test Site in late February 1967, this test detonation enabled scientists to quickly gather physics data. This data would have otherwise taken years to collect using an accelerator, if it could be collected at all using traditional laboratory equipment.
