I am really thankful that you fell comfortable talking about catholicism, fertility, purity culture, etc. I’m an atheist, but I think this is really interesting how people preaching a certain religion view these things. I feel like your community here, on KZitem, are genuinely curious to know more about those topics. You should definitely talk about it more! Thank you so much for opening to us♥️

Kath I want to THANK YOU for speaking about your catholic faith. The Cimorellis are the only "famous people" ive ever seen that share about being catholics, and, as a catholic myself, it has had SUCH a big impact in me because I feel like we are never represented in the media. (Only in horror movies about exorcisms and crazy nuns) no one shows a normal catholic life You made me feel less alone ,someone out there understood me!❤ Most of the people that surround me are either non practicing catholics or agnostic, and I feel like no one understands me if I care about stuff like going to mass, the sacraments, or waiting until marriage. I've noticed that you seem to want to apologize for sharing about those things, or doubt if you should ,but please don't! know there is nothing shameful or annoying about sharing your faith, it is actually really good. For both non catholics to get to know us and understand us (we ain't weirdos) and for us to not feel so invisible and unrepresented and awkward So thanks so much, have a blessed day🧡🧡

I find it really interesting as somebody who isn’t religious, you can tell you’ve thought a lot about your faith and have solidified why you believe what you believe and I feel like I don’t get to hear those thoughts enough! Would love more videos like this one if you’re comfortable and have the time

You CANT make that go back to normal when muscle and nerve was cut. It was rough at first but im used to and love my mommy body now. Plus... now I'm about 16w with baby number 2 and my daughter is 2 and a half. We need to be kinder to ourselves. Our bodies did such an amazing, hard thing.

I love that even though you’d want your kids to continue being catholic into adulthood, you’d love them even if they choose something different. My dad grew up catholic. Although he’s in a completely different religion now. My mom grew up in a not so good cult like religion. So she’s always said, it’s our choice on whatever we want to or don’t want to believe. And I’ve gone to youth group throughout my teenage years and had some “wow” moments, in a good way. And everyone I’ve met throughout a couple of youth groups made me feel like I fit in somewhere at least for a while. but now as an adult and being bisexual, it’d take time to find that good place again. That excepts all of who I am.

Genuine question: how come catholics are against (medical) birth control, but not avoiding pregnancy through natural family planning? I thought the argument against birth control was that God commanded them to be fruitful and many? Or is it not derived from the Bible, but the Pope's interpretation? Resources are welcome, I am looking to learn :)
@KatherineCimorelli
Жыл бұрын
Hi Kristina! Thanks for this very thoughtful comment. First of all, I’m not a scholar or expert so I will just share what I know but please don’t take my answer as the end all be all. The Catholic faith is incredibly deep and rich and this is just a quick response.. anyway, as Catholics we believe God designed the marital act to be free (so of your own free will, no coercion), faithful (only you and your spouse, no cheating), total (the act is done to completion and you give of yourself totally) and fruitful (doesn’t mean it produces children- it means you are open to God’s gift of children in your marriage). However, the way God designed sex, it doesn’t produce a pregnancy every time (women are only able to get pregnant around the time they ovulate), YET it is still holy and good as long as it falls within those 4 pillars. Natural family planning means choosing to abstain from sex at certain times following a woman’s natural cycle and fertility to avoid pregnancy OR not to abstain to achieve pregnancy. This is very different than using a literal barrier to avoid pregnancy- we are not changing the inherent nature of the act, but instead choosing to abstain at certain times if it isn’t a wise time to have a child (or the opposite- many couples use NFP to achieve pregnancy as well). This doesn’t mean you are in the drivers seat- we are called to be incredibly prayerful and let God lead. But we are to ask God every month if it is a prudent time for our family physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally and financially to have another child or not. It’s thoughtful and prayerful, and brings both spouses together as a team to discern God’s will for their family. Catholics don’t believe “be fruitful and multiply” means “have as many kids as you possibly can and never do anything to not have children” - that’s actually from a movement I believe called the Quiver Full movement that isn’t related to Catholicism.. I hope this is helpful and again, I’m not an expert! This is just my understanding of my Catholic beliefs on this.

@Kristina Katherine explained very well the nature of the marital act, and how the nfp doesn't change it, but one of the diffences is also that using nfp to avoid pregnancy is only okay for a grave/serious reason (as explained in detail by popes saint Pius XII and saint Paul VI in respective encyclicals). So it's not like you can just use it as you please - that would be similar to birth control with some discipline on top. The status quo of the catholic marriage is accepting children as gifts according to your abilities. NFP is for special cases if that helps. (also for achieving pregnancy of course - but ultimately it is God who is the master of life) :)
@KristinaYouNow
Жыл бұрын
@@KatherineCimorelli thank you for your response. I must admit it is still not quite clear to me why one method of avoiding pregnancy is prohibited but not the other. From what I read it seems like it may be because of the Pope’s guidance and not directly drawn from the Bible? (Correct me if im wrong). I know some faiths are against medical intervention because they believe everything is God’s will, but as far as I know that’s not the case for catholics as they still may take heart meds or allergy pills should they want to. Just curious that contraceptive pills are singled out, maybe it has some cultural or historical reasoning that Pope Paul VI deemed them as evil and not other meds that are of course also «unnatural».

When a couple gets married in the Catholic church, the priest asks the couple "Are you prepared to accept children lovingly from God and to bring them up according to the law of Christ and his Church?" Meaning a couple should always be open to the possibility of new life. If there is any type of barrier, medication, or sterilization that is being used with the intention to prevent pregnancy then they are not being open to what God's plan may be for them. Here is a quote from an article that talks a little bit about natural law: "The natural-law purpose of sex is procreation. The pleasure that sexual intercourse provides is an additional blessing from God, intended to offer the possibility of new life while strengthening the bond of intimacy, respect, and love between husband and wife. The loving environment this bond creates is the perfect setting for nurturing children. But sexual pleasure within marriage becomes unnatural, and even harmful to the spouses, when it is used in a way that deliberately excludes the basic purpose of sex, which is procreation. God’s gift of the sex act, along with its pleasure and intimacy, must not be abused by deliberately frustrating its natural end-procreation." I'm sure there are other things that I'm missing and forgetting about too. But it's late here and I wanted to try to answer your question :)
