I was wondering who Mary Delany was and I looked her up. She was an eighteenth-century botanical artist who invented a method of collage she called "paper mosaics" using tiny bits of colored paper to portray flowers with uncanny accuracy. Surely a worthy namesake for what people consider a really beautiful and rose. (I have never seen it in person).

Thank you for doing these awesome reviews! You are the only one I can find that talked about this one in depth. I just ordered two to grow up the front of my house. It will be shipped this spring and I can't wait!

It’s a challenging subject to talk about, but I think David Austin made the right choice in renaming. This rose. It would’ve been such a shame to have lost it being virtually thoughtless. It’s perfect for high traffic areas such as of the front of the house. I hope that you enjoy it. My suggestion is to make sure you pair it with a Clematis or two

@@the_gardenerben Yes thank you so much for all the advice! I love your Clematis idea and will do, I can just imagine how beautiful those two flowers will pare together! I watched hours of your videos yesterday before choosing which variety I thought would be best in a "narrow" space. So many DA roses are beautiful but some are "bushy" climbers. I did get a medium bush for my back yard too, thanks to your videos I chose the EUSTACIA VYE. I am really looking forward to them arriving this spring! Please continue to share your fabulous garden and knowledge. Thank you! :-)

I thought I'd settled on James Galway but I'm now torn, they both have qualities I like the look of but I can only accomodate the one 😣

@@jhlewis7490 which one you choose well depend on your planting location Mary Delaney does very well in partial shade only receiving three or four hours of direct sunlight per day making it ideal to plant in a challenging location or on an east or north facing aspect. James Galway will perform much better given much more light.

The President clematis,as my opinion, will be a great combination with this rose.

The selection is really up to you just make sure that it’s not something that’s going to swamp it say something that you’re going to prune to a permanent framework every year avoid honeysuckle and things like clematis Montana which flower on old wood

I’m really sorry but no I will not be able to bring you that review I had the rose and it was so weak it was removed from my collection sometime ago I believe it in America it’s grown on a different route stock and performs differently to that supplied here in the UK the colour is stunning as is the fragrance but the rose here is very weak and susceptible to black spot
@preciousbell4573

@@the_gardenerben ok thanks. Did it manage to flower and was it lots or very few? Does black spot only affect the leaves or the flowers and plant as well?
