I'm a retired psychiatrist and childhood sexual abuse survivor, who was the Acting Medical Director of a trauma recovery program, while drinking every night for chemical dissociation. Ironic? At 77, now retired, the "protection and care" I've received in 12-step groups has allowed me to connect the dots of earlier clearer trauma memories, memory of the perp exposing himself to me in his LR when I was 9 or 10, football star with NO MEMORY of playing (!), dissociation during 12-step mtg's. for the first 8 yrs. of recovery, and all the other classic PTSD symptoms. This has given me a whole new appreciation of denial and the lingering secrets from the UNCS. Thanks to Curt and Jamie! Good Luck! Stress R Us

Thank you for all these informative videos. EMDR along with talk therapy and doing the ACA - Adult Children of Alcoholics and dysfunctional families Twelve Steps Program - have been a life changer. It has helped me tremendously to save my life as suffer of Complex PTSD and other mental illnesses. I'd dare say that in a perfect world EMDR and therapy should be available to the most vulnerable, and governments all around the world should make this a possibility.

I just started therapy. My therapist was explaining EMDR as she was writing on a notebook. She did the hand movement to just demonstrate what would happen. When she did that I was watching her hand go back and forth. I immediately felt a calmness over my entire body. It was instant but I never told her. We weren't even doing a legit session and that amazing feeling happened. Im telling her this Monday. I hope I don't jinx myself.

I co-lead a support group for women with betrayal trauma. i have ONE trauma therapist that we trust not to further traumatize the ladies. He offers very effective brain spotting. I trust him completely. I know a few women who don't feel emdr had any affect on them...but it was done with a new therapist they didn't know and didn't really trust ...so hear you discuss the importance of relationship was very helpful in explaining possibly why... Also, I think it is further complicated with a couple therapists starting the new relationship off with doing emdr virtually. Is this accepted as normal practice in the field?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I needed to know this as I get ready to help a client who dissociates a bit but the approach will be so different not one of concern but of understanding and opportunity.
